Engine cranks in run position

Post by hummer4x4guy » Mon Sep 19, 2016 8:18 pm

Guys,
The 6.5/4L80E conversion for the most part is done.
But I've having a big issue with the truck cranking when the start switch is placed in the run position. I am getting 24v to the solenoid but the wait light won't come on and the only gauges shaping movement are oil and fuel.
I was in the process of purging air and getting the fuel into the lines when I first cranked it and it happened.
Looking for help or suggestions.
I do have a spare PCB box on hand but I don't exactly want to stick it in if there is a wiring issue and it fries it.

I had that happen on a truck....in my case it was the EESS, changed it out and problem fixed. Scared the crap out of me when it happend, I wasn't expecting the truck to start when it turned switch, then it just kept cranking.

I've had my thoughts it's the control box but really hoped it wasn't. I have one nut that's rusted on the bolt I'm working to try and remove. I'll remember the antisieze on those bolt this time around.

Does the NARTRON brand control box require a glowplug controller also?
I put in the spare I had and I have more proper starting on the truck but with the TSU that's installed doing the tests in the manuals it says the gpc is bad, or it's not set to work with the NARTRON brand?

The nartron yellow label box { 12469158-1 } works with controller 12469158-2.
KDS has a yellow band and Nartron is grey, but has a small p.n. on decal.

Truck has a yellow KDS TSU. Is there a way to test them to make sure they are working? I'm not getting a wait light on start up but I thought this TSU I installed was new. But I could be wrong.

All,TSU's are backwards compatible with S3 EESS.

For the 1 millionth time...a GPC is not a TSU. GPC only work with PCB.
If you have an EESS, it uses a TSU.
Sorry, this topic has been beaten to death on every HMMWV forum on the web. It's a sticky here and on steel soldiers.

Your conversion didn't happen to include a miswired start switch did it? Switching the start and run wires will really mess things up. I know this is pretty basic but I've seen lots of really smart computer types with computers that wouldn't boot up, until the wall switch was turned on!

I'm not sure what was the exact issue but it now starts as it should and runs great.
Only issues left are:
• no wait light
• no action on the voltage meter
•no action on the tach
• new LED tail lights are sorta acting up like a 3 year old.
I did install the truck light brand flasher and I do get the right side to flash properly.

Happy with where I'm at. I'll bolt the body down tomorrow and hook up linkage to the transmission.

I would have got one electrical system to work before I started adding other items.

Kurt, I asked the same thing about mixed up wires. I suggested if it cranked in RUN, then move switch to START. He said it cranked in both spots.

It doesn't crank in the run position anymore.
