Help with identification
Hi
Spotted this on the UK BBC website home page - story is to do with the Ukraine conflict.
Picture is not that sharp - but looks like an older style HMMWV body with a very odd top and gun config?

Re: Help with identification
The M1097's were sort of a model for making cheapie humvees to sell as far as I can figure. Hummer two man, not the extended two man and four man hard tops were used on some of them.

Re: Help with identification
They were often a candidate for up armouring due to their higher load bearing capacity, so they could handle the extra payload, kind of like the M1109 but easier to export under foreign military aid/ assistance etc. you see a number of foreign military's purchased M1097's but they are essentially armament carriers. It was more politically correct and pre ECV m1113-1114 days.
These are M1097's in service in the Phillipines defence force. The armour on these was supplied by AM General. There are many other examples.

Re: Help with identification
Unfortunately those are the only two I've got. They have a bitser fleet it seems, all kinds of random local modifications. But that one is clad in armour all the way from the USA. You see that armour on a lot of AMG's early 90's promotional stuff.

Re: Help with identification
I'm not saying there is anything politically incorrect with Humvee's. More so that, on a piece of paper, to a bureaucrat or politician, Cargo/ Troop carrier looks less threatening/ ominous than armament carrier/ Up armoured, especially if the piece of paper is a list of what the US government is supplying your neighbour, under foreign military assistance, who you have mixed feelings for and don't see eye to eye with, despite the fact you are also an ally of the United States. I dunno, maybe I'm full of it, maybe I should go jump in a lake lol.
