Battery Drain

Postby Hmmwv516 » Tue Jul 24, 2012 6:41 pm

Hey guys having trouble keeping the batteries charged, I had a 24v to 12v converter hooked up ( not center posted!) dissconnected it to see if that was the problem.. Charged the batteries started it right up, ran it for a while, shut it off and started it back up an hour later. The next day however i have juice but not enough to get it crankin. Any Ideas?

Did you check to make sure your light switch isn't set in one of the Black out settings?
Did you get any arc when you hooked up the new batteries?

You might try disconnecting the negative battery terminal . See if you get an arc. Once it is off unscrew the big connector from the back side of the light switch.
Once that is off touch the negative wire back to the battery. If you don't get an arc then you can assume that you have a bad switch . You could also have a problem with the Glow plug controller .
Disconnect that next . You should only remove the light switch connector and the GPC box connectors after you have disconnected the batteries.
May take a bit of trouble shooting but if you start by isolating different loads one at a time it will help you track down the culpret.

first off.....make sure your Gen is charging your batteries....what is the voltage at the batteries when truck is running? 28.5v ?
tkae you batteries and have them load tested....very well a bad battery that will not take a load but will take a charge....seen it many times.

Stop guessing and do an amp draw test with a cheap $5 multimeter...I bet you will be seeing a considerable draw of 1+amp. Start disconnecting stuff until you see the amp draw drop.
