How did you order the CARC paint? I tried to order some from the local SW and was told that no way they would sell to me it was controlled (?).

Real good work, I have to ask, in the first picture in the background, is that your spare part bins  Holy Hell (On Wheels)

TheHummerguy wrote:i few progress Pics.....The Hood stripping has been pretty easy, seems the Hood was NOS, not a crack or damaged area repaired, they Line-X'd right onto it, no previous paint, so it has been easy to get the old stuff off, Now the rest of the Truck has been tough in some areas, but in others the Jasco has gone right to Bare Metal in 15min.

Yes....that's one of the spare parts shelves....I have way to much hmmwv crap.
Biggest problem is finding stuff when I need it....mostly the small stuff, I have most of that sorted
In bins...engine, cooling, rubber and plastics, steering, electrical....etc, makes it a little easier.

Well, I guess I got lucky, first off, the CARC is not paint....at least as far as SW is concerned, it's a coating.
Many moons ago I was able to order it and since then I am in the system.
My green, black, brn and primer showed up Friday.....so today I am going to prime and paint.
I already did the acid wash and Alodine treatment.....so wish me luck.
I will post pics when I am done.

We better hope the Russians don't drop "jasco paint stripper"bombs on our trucks before the chemical attack.

Do a google search, there is a place in SOCAL called Action Paint or something like that. Here it is:

http://www.aktionsupply.com/?gclid=COfv ... QgodIEHnCQ

Just order Henzen CARC and they ship it to you. I never asked any dumb questions like "can I buy it?" or anything. Just ordered like I knew what I needed and they shipped it, three times now.

Milspray will not ship Crimp One Off but their fake CARC substitute.

But let me tell you about the fumes…with a full face mask, goggles and hood, while spraying outside, you could still smell the stuff. Best to get a paint shop to do it.

When stripping the hood, are there any special precautions needed when using the paint stripper? I don't want to melt the hood.....

Hi Larry
THe only reason I stripped the Hood was because of the LineX coating the previous owner applied. If the Hood was Only CARC, I would Not remove it, Wet Sand it, Fix any Cracks are issues, But I would not strip it, the Factory CARC Job can't be replicated very easy.
Now, If you want to go ahead and do it anyway, Mu suggestion is to not leave it on any bare Hood Areas that you have exposed, I do not think the hood is
actually fiberglass, it must be a combination of something else. I had no issues with applying the Paint remover and Geling or Softning of the Hood.
My hood appeard to have have not been painted previously, I only had to remove the LineX....the Light areas and Grill area are a rear B***H.

Thanks for the tip. This hood seems to be in good shape as far as damage but it has several coats of carc. It is extremely thick in some areas with heavy runs all over it. In one area it looks to have been painted with a paint brush. In some of the paint chipped areas it looks to be 3/16 inch or more thick. I just wanted to take it down completely and start over.

Well, my "paint prep" thread has moved into the mechanical refresh phase...got all the geared hubs rebuilt, new shocks, all new paint on frame, new engine wire harness, new glow plugs, water pump, fan cluch, refreshed all seal in diffs, new rotors, new calipers, all new rubber on engine, new generator, new gen bracket, all components sprayed with black CARC.
I will get some progress pics up soon.....she's looking good.
