San Jose Veteran's Day Parade 11/11/17 in San Jose

Post by Kim Sievert » Thu Nov 09, 2017 9:32 am

From Kurt
This year for the Veterans Day Parade we are unit number 53 and will stage on the south side of W Santa Clara St between Autumn St and Cahill St. This is directly opposite the SAP Arena. We are NOT on the street along side the SAP Arena where we have staged for the past umteen years.. Staging time is listed as 10:15 but I'm sure the way this works we should be there well before then so that other units don't usurp that area.

Santa Clara street is usually still open for parade participants only, (just after the train tracks entering from the west), but because regular traffic gets rerouted, it may slow you down getting through there after 9:00 am

All other routes to our staging area, will be open for parade participants to use.

Drive safely and have patience, be aware that kids and adults do not think about moving vehicles on closed roads.

Per James
From the SJVC ""Please join us following the City of San Jose Veterans Day Parade to celebrate our Veterans at Honor on The Row at Santana Row from 2-6 p.m. The event will feature a Gold Star Memorial to honor the fallen, a display of military vehicles and classic cars, a Care Package Collection Booth sponsored by The Cost of Courage Foundation and participation from several community and Veteran organizations including Blue Star Moms, Spirit of 45, Dignity Memorial, VSSA, the USS Hornet, Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Veterans Council and many more! Bring the family and enjoy a day of honoring our heroes at Santana Row!

This event is free and open to the public.""

Weather, predicted is sunshine and temps in the 60s to 70s, but bring a jacket in case the wind whips up and weatherman guesses wrong.

The weather co-operated and we had a great parade through downtown San Jose. The turnout for both vehicles and spectators was a little lighter than in the past but still a good showing. The after parade display at Santana Row was much better than last years and having Doug Bowles trucks to compliment the display really added a lot to it. For an upscale shopping area it's really surprising how popular the trucks are. A whole lot different than what we used to experience years ago when the military wasn't viewed with respect. And certainly different than what we experienced just 2 years ago at San Jose's Rose, White, and Blue parade!
