Greg that would be a good name even if the area wasn't called that. Liberty Valley area is just west of the KOA which is actually in an area called Liberty/Skillman. Locals would appreciate the name.

Dave Ball said there will be a contest and the Board will choose from names sent in with the winner receiving a year's club membership, so send them to Dave ASAP. If he plans to publish them in the newsletter I hope the Board acts quickly so the winning name can be included in advertising. I assume to qualify the name has to be sent to Dave, not just published here.

If a name should tie in something an area is known for, Petaluma is most known for being a nationally important chicken and egg producing area starting in the 19th century. It was known as the "Egg Capital of the World" for many decades, and many military rations during WWII included food products from Petaluma. I have been scratching my head to come up with a name that ties this in. "Chickaluma Bivouac" probably won't win any awards! FYI the "fowl" tradition lives on via the big "Butter and Egg Days" event highlighted by a big parade and festival downtown. This is the Saturday after our meet, with an antique fair on Sunday. Those of you who want to stay in the area the week after our event to explore might want to attend this event. Obviously there area a lot of wineries in Sonoma County, plus ocean beaches with campgrounds, Bodega Bay, Occidental, other interesting small towns, the Russian River area, Pacific Coast Air Museum, and more.

My entry will be "40th Annual West Coast Military Vehicle Rally."

Speaking of history, for those who appreciate 19th century U.S. architecture there are hundreds of those buildings here. Petaluma was built on bedrock that remained stable during the 1906 earthquake when many of the other regional towns and cities lost many buildings. for anyone who decides to look around petaluma a bit, there is a small military museum on petaluma blvd. this contains a uniformed mannequin of Sgt Richard Penry, who received the Medal of Honor for actions in Vietnam while serving with the 199th light infantry brigade.

That's as quirky a name as it is mysterious. But the place is not in Marin County. Not even within the blast radius however when you drive your jeeps west of Petaluma to Tomales or Dillon Beach you enter Marin. West Sonoma and Marin Counties are all about wonderful MV driving roads and scenery.

I knew it wasn't actually in Marin County but I liked the sound of Marin Redoubt rather that Petaluma Redoubt or Sonoma Redoubt or KOA Redoubt. A little poetic license perhaps?

There is a new event announcement post on this forum with a link to the primary one on the EVENTS forum. Unless you have MVCC-oriented chatter, best to post things over there.

There will be details up on the club website soon I hope.

Well if we don't go with "Camp Chick-A-Luma" in honor of the millions of eggs those chicken shacks on the hills produced....

and we don't go with "Camp Snoopy" in honor of George Shultz who lived up the road....

and we choose to ignore the weather and pass on "Camp Fogbank"...

and we avoid "Camp 101'...

Then we should go with a military moniker like "Camp Midway" because we are midway between here and Timbuktoo perhaps?

OK...enough of that....I too vote for "Camp Penry" named after the MOH recipient from Petaluma in the VN War.
