Announcing USN & USMC Vehicle Showcase Camp Delta '13-UPDATE

Postby John Neuenburg » Wed May 02, 2012 12:06 pm

The big showcase for April 19, 2013 at Camp Delta will be USN and USMC vehicles. Now some of the boys in the motor pool have said this is just a cheap trick to give certain slackers who missed the IHC Motor Pool a chance to get their act together. Over at the commissary they say it's a campaign by the paint vendors to move more gray and forest green. One wag was passing a rumor that Ron Fitzpatrick will be rolling out a line of lifting shackles and he lobbied for this theme. Or is it just some snivelling sailors?

None of this is true! The answer is simply, why not?

Surplus City Jeep Parts is sponsoring four cash awards for the People's Choice Contest. Top three get $150/100/75 and a $50 check will go to one voter drawn from the bucket prior to the count. Like a door prize. It pays to show up and vote!

Main question is, does a MV have to be originally delivered to those branches to qualify? Since Marines are known to steal their vehicles maybe anything marked right should be OK. The other thing is, some former Army or USAF vehicles are marked Navy or Marine because of the background or interests of the owners. Allowing that type of restoration will give them a chance to strut their stuff. Comments?

POCs for this event are Stoney Brook at stoneybpi@aol.com and Paul De Nubilo at denubilo@roadrunner.com. Contact them to get your MV or other related display on their list so they can plan space. Or if you want to help stage the vehicles or want to organize a model-specific lineup, SOUND OFF!

First person to bring a LVT to Tower gets two free BBQ dinners and their drink money is no good in my campsite. Heck some folks would throw money into a hat just to see one squeeze through camp.

Maybe you could join the USAF and then convince them to fly a C-17 from Travis to McConnell to pick up you and your LVT and take it back with them. Travis AFB is close to Tower Park. Easy!

Seriously we'd like to hear about any LVTs out West so we can invite them.

The POC has to be above room temperature but not to exceed 99 degrees. That and have his contact info put out there so folks with vehicles can get questions answered or say what they are bringing even though most people don't do either.

Beyond that the POC can put as much into it as he wants. Like contacting companies to sponsor the People's Choice money or merchandise prizes, phoning people with MVs to invite them to come or telling them about it at other events, organize the layout in the field that morning with helpers, make the ballots and window signs and hand them out or get someone else to do it, make a cool advertising flyer for the newsletter or for posting in September, mention it on MV forums (although I do a lot of that), write a newsletter article or three to generate interest. Count the ballots. There may be other things that can be done. Any or all.

I help, especially with newsletter and web forum advertising including creating the new generation MVCC magazine ads that include showcases as bullet points. I've been making the nice award certificates for participants (and the POC!) although the POC can do that if he wants something different. I have templates for vehicle signs and ballots.

That is the first Navy/USMC radio jeep, John.

Contracts were for MB-Marine, MB-NOM and one for Yards and Docks. These looked like most Army jeeps but had some weird accessories and were painted forest green.

The contracts for the radio jeeps were the MB-NOM-12 (MZ), MB-NAVY-MZ-1, MB-NAVY-MZ-2 and the MB-NB.

OK, maybe liberate is a better word.

Next year's showcase will allow a bunch of people who were in past showcases do it again. Or could have been in them (you know who you are!)

Again - paint-ups or real By-God USN or USMC contracts??? Image

There would be few jeeps for the showcase if we were only allowing contract jeeps and other contract military vehicles, John.

In my opinion there is quite a bit of interest in the Navy painted jeeps... and other Navy gray painted military vehicles.

Mark,

Thank goodness, I was worried I would have to bring the ambjeep down again. This contract thing saves me a bunch of fuel money this way and travel time not dragging a trailer down there.

Am currently spraying the Ord 9 two part USMC paint on the Sgt. Laird project (In the Puckerbrush Photos). It is different color than the Gillespie(sp?) USMC green for sure. When I get her on the ground, will take some outside pics of the ambjeep and the "project" side by side in the sunlight.

Have a great rest of the weekend,

That's pretty funny. A real Holden jeep is a contract jeep so you are not off the hook. Or are you saying your jeep is not a genuine Holden? Prototype MD Juan kit? Trade school metal fab project?

Wonder how many Holdens we could get? How many are West of the Mississippi?
