Major MV Display at Marin Sonoma Concours May 19-20, 2012

Postby John Neuenburg » Sat Jan 21, 2012 2:53 pm

Have you ever displayed your MV at a Concours d’Elegance or other fancy car show? Salty jeep next to classic Packard? Ever notice which gets the most attention? Well the promoters of the Marin Sonoma Concours d’Elegance are giving YOU your chance to experience this first-hand. MVs will be the featured supporting display this May 19-20. They want up to 75+ MVs! Location is Marin Center, home of the Marin County Fair. We won’t be judged or be side-by-side with the classics. We have a high profile area just inside their admission gate between the Marin Veterans Memorial Auditorium and the large pond, with grass, trees, hardpan, even an island with land bridge we can use. Spectators will walk through our display to get to the car show and vendors.

In past years the supporting themes have been vintage commercial vehicles, travel trailers, hot rods, and car clubs. Now it’s our turn. One shot deal. No club affiliation required. Pass the word.
• RSVP please
• Camping Friday and Saturday. Location has changed lately so let me know if you are interested.Camping in the display area with restrictions.
• MV convoy to Joe Garbarino Military Museum for a private open house for Concours participants. Saturday TBA.See 9 U.S. tanks, big WW2 trucks, etc.
• A Nike Hercules missile will be in our display
• 25th Infantry Division Huey helo appearance likely
• Restaurants are close and Embassy Suites Hotel restaurant, bar is next door
• Sunday is the public event 0900-1600. Vehicles in place before 0845
• Living history units, militaria displays, tents, sandbagged gun emplacements, vintage uniforms welcome
• Amphibious MVs OK to be static in pond at the vintage wooden boat dock. Call for details. Jeep trailers in pond are authorized
Army Motors or Military Vehicles Magazine article is planned
• $35 MV registration fee (discounted from $75 Concours fee). Includes 2 passes worth $20 each and a goodie bag. Extra MV $20 and includes 2 passes
• Benefit for Hospice by the Bay and Boys & Girls Clubs of Marin & Southern Sonoma Counties
• Download MV registration form at http://marinsonomaconcours.org and return by MAY 10. UPDATE - LATE REGISTRATION OK

MVs to be in original or field condition without unmilitary modifications such as civilian paint color, large tires, roll bar, etc. (not worried about going up a tire size on half ton Dodges). Salty vehicles OK as is safety equipment such as improved lights. 100 foot rule is a good guideline. This is a one shot deal for MVs so let’s show the car collectors who has the real fun and expose the public to our nation's history! John,

Is camping to be done in the display area or outside the display area? If it's remote, what will our hours of operation be? Normal 8 to 5 limitations?

EDIT 3/19 ------
Camping will be a couple hundred yards from the display area. National Guard Armory grounds, Armory Road off Civic Center Drive. Past the Jury Parking Lot. Anybody interested should ask POCs about details.

Military tents and living history units are desired in the display area so those wanting to set those up may camp there with permission. Please let us know if interested.

Confirmed the Garbarino Museum tour for Saturday. He will host appetizers. Convoy departs Marin Center Saturday and head across town to kick some of his tires and tracks. Joe has some interesting vehicles, including tanks: M3A1, M4, M5A1, M19, M22, M24, M47, M48, M60. Also Italian MVs, GPA, Bantam jeep, M1A1 Ward LaFrance wrecker and other big WW2 trucks, more U.S. soft skins. Then we'll return to the display site to party and decide what goes where on Sunday.

Those wanting to convoy to this event Friday or Saturday should contact one of the POCs. We can hook you up with others.

Yes but not via application because it just got posted. Verbal so far, plus Joe Garbarino will support it with some vehicles but not sure how many.

Mike can you bring your big BBQ for communal use for dinner? I don't know yet if the Armory has one we can use.

I have a couple of BBQ's, depending on how many people we have using it, we might not need the monster one. But either way I can provide a BBQ for everyone to use.

Note special registration pricing for MVs, and the application location on their website. DEADLINE MAY 10 FOR THIS APPLICATION. If you are planning to attend, please sound off NOW AND return the application ASAP so enough space can be allocated. So far we have plenty but that might change. We have two WW2 trucks coming from Redding so we don't want any "it's too far" excuses! We also want to hear from people wanting to camp Friday.

Updated original post. Get your application in. Remember that this is a static display 0845-1600 so you are welcome to leave your truck, depart, and return later. We can put it next to someone planning to hang around who can watch it. You are welcome to rope off your vehicles if you provide the posts and rope. Space is available on pavement or lawn.

Registration deadline has been extended. We have the room. Let us know if you are planning to attend but have not sent in the application yet. Download it at www.marinsonomaconcours.org. Note it's not .com. I don't know the procedure yet for day-of-show registration.

Important I get contact info for Saturday attendees because we expect a change in timing for the Joe Garbarino Military Museum open house on Saturday. I will advise. Also this is supposed to be for Concours military vehicle participants only. It's not a general invitation.

I need to be able to communicate to people planning to camp Friday or Saturday. Contact me if you haven't already.

Public show is Sunday.

Update to the original post including camping location change. If you want to camp contact John.

Also a map and directions should get on email to those on my list by Thursday night

If anyone wants to convoy from Sonoma County on Sunday morning, consider falling in with Lee Hoskins and his CCKW. I have his number if you don't.

Ed Roberts will be coming from Oakland in his jeep and wants company. I have his info.

There still may be time to get certain vehicles towed to the event via commercial flatbed so let us know.

Joe Garbarino is bringing a handful of interesting vehicles to the show, including a tank - probably the Sherman. If you have never seen or heard a Sherman with the big Ford V8 run, this is an opportunity. Ditto a M1A1 Ward LaFrance wrecker. Probably his equipment will come out early Sunday morning but could be some on Saturday.
