Need advice on WC51 Brake Master Cylinder rebuild - too many parts in kit...?

Post by thunder37 » Sun Nov 26, 2017 2:52 pm

Guys,

Need advice on WC51 Brake Master Cylinder rebuild - too many parts in kit...?

I am rebuilding a nice Brake Master Cylinder, ordered a rebuild kit and it has a rubber flat washer that doesn't appear in the manual, and there was no instruction sheet with the kit. Also, this rubber washer was not found in the original parts as I disassembled it for rebuild.

See pics below, as I have shown the kit parts, and zoomed in on the washer itself.

Any ideas?

Valve Seat Seal.
(My guess)
Based on Motor auto repair manual from about 39-51 edition (I went through several, including truck editions) it would (in theory) be inserted into the cylinder before the "N" valve assembly.
I see in the manuals I searched, that some master cylinders had removable end caps, so perhaps this was needed only for those style cylinders and the part is included for multi-kit use. If it wasn't in yours, your likely to be fine without inserting it.

I could see it helping seal the end of the cylinder to check valve area if your cylinder end is not smooth.

PS: Can't talk about my WC 56 Master, as I opted for a dual '78 Corvette (4 manual disc car) master Cyl. with an extension off the original mount forward about a foot up by the generator. WAW

Inside the master cylinder before anything else?
Then the residual pressure check valve then the spring.
Make sure the old one is not still in the housing.

Understand how system parts interact with one another. GOOD parts can then be established & the NOT GOOD problem/s part/s isolated for repair or replacement.
