Very nice work. Congrats on the progress. I can't wait to see it running, although you know I'm in a similar boat. It is a fun and rewarding experience. Nice winch BTW.
Hi Oz,

Thank you,i can't wait to have it in a position to have it running, its a long way down the line though, will be looking to send it off for a rebuild.

Yes came up trumps with the winch ,i still have to sell the MU2A winch that came with the truck,at least I've got a decent shipping box for it now.

Ive now got most of the parts to put the brakes back on,just need to repaint the back axle and brake mounting plates.I think I've got rid of the creepy critters that came with the truck.Front axle i need to probably wait for the springs to come back and re-mount the axle before taking the drums off the mount the brake shoes and cylinders.

Ive got so much apart at the moment and trying to do so many different things ,probably rushing it a bit but good to make some progress while i have the time though.

Onward and upward.

Cheers.

Paul.

Took the rear axle apart to see what the issue was, well the rear pinion bearing is dented,so that answers that..i gave the gears a close inspection and the only damage i could see was on the main ring gear, when i cleaned out the axle i got quite a few bits of teeth out and other parts, all i can assume is the axle was rebuilt and not cleaned out properly and then damaged the axle again.?!

Nice work finding the culprit. Glad you can proceed now with confidence knowing what needs fixing. The unknown is always so disconcerting.

I managed to get it all part in the end only braking 2 screws,i will have to drill them out very carefully..and get replacements.
Also the gearing it stuck so I've left it soaking in penetrating oil, hopefully it will free it up.
I have 2 spare speedometers so this one i can afford to try and rebuild it myself.

You can use 0000 steel wool on your speedo glass and not worry about scratching it. You can support the glass with a bundled up cloth in the palm of your hand.

Cheers Oz,
Might be a while before i get round to restoring it I've got so much more to do, i just wanted to see what condition it was in so i could order some parts for it.
Thanks for the advice D.R.H, will give it a go with the wire wooll just have to be careful of the numbers on the back on the glass i don't want to damage them and that the side the rust is on..

Working on putting the brakes back on today, ive got the brake shoes back from the shop, and have rebuilt the cylinders, the shoes look brand new, just have to remember how it all goes back together.!

Do you oil the felt oil retainers? i think i should but theres nothing in the manual, unless its in the lubrication chart?

Yes the springs do look great,I've got all the correct bolts to put the front ones on now.

Ive now stripped down the MU winch and have sanded primed and sprayed it ready for reassembly ,I've just put it back in the frame to see how it fits and to see if I've got the right length of bolts in the right place as it didn't have a full set before i started and the front bumper came in bits as well. All trial and error..ive got new gaskets on there way and need to have the new bearing pressed on.
Heres some pics so far..

The brake shoes where sent away and relined with new linings ,they blasted and repainted them so they look better than new.

Ive sanded the front drums and painted them as well, the brake surfaces looked good so I've just left them as is.
