Cheers OZ,I've been watching your progress as well, similar stages ,yours is looking good too should have it rolling soon.!
I still have a lot to do before i can get the axles on,although i do have the springs done.

Im also looking at the engine,i cleaned up the piston tops and valves,i will be replacing the valves at some point but i need to first get a valve compression tool, something else to buy. on the upside the piston bores look good and it turns over by hand ok.

Working away a lot at the moment,so i have a lot of time to think about what to do next and look for things to buy..

Keep up the great work OZ.

Regards.

Paul.

I am looking forward to working on my engine. I have never done this before, so taking on the transfer case, the tranny and the steering box will help me to build confidence and learn a few basic concepts before I learn about engines. I am really looking forward to it. Thanks for the encouragement.

Just back for a long weekend so had some time to do a few things on the CC,I've finally got all the head bolts off, that was hard work,i used the old fashioned 2 nut jam to get the bolts out and a breaker bar, only to find out i could have bought a stud extraction tool?

I also got my rear spring shackles back from the engineering shop, they cut new holes in the shackle to get rid of the oval holes then inserted the brass bushing,i think they look great, will look forward to spraying them and fitting .

I am excited to see your progress on the engine. I am close to that point and look forward to learning from you on the process. Please post many pictures at each stage. I know it is a pain to do, but we all benefit from seeing the process first hand. Looking good.

Hi Oz,me too,I've rebuild motorbike engines before but nothing this big,i will be quite happy to take it apart and give it to a company to have it rebored etc,it going to be slow going as I'm working away a lot at the moment, but i will keep updating and posting pictures as i go along,i was just looking at a few earlier posts i had put and was refreshing to see how far i had come..and taking lots of pictures along the way does really help, you always think your going to remember but you don't .. I'm going to order the transfer case gaskets and have a go at taking it apart at some point as you did.im buying the parts from Mullins jeep parts, not sure if you got your from there or not but they seemed like a good price etc.

Transfer case should be fun to do. mine was a bit stiff in turning. i ended up finding one more shim that i thought came from the idler gear cover. they are so thin that the "hide" under the bearing retainer covers. i found it while cleaning and must have put it in the wrong bag. all i had to do is take off the case side retainers and follow the TM regarding the shims. Took about 30 minutes to rectify.

i tend to shop between the two dodge parts suppliers, but did not think to try brent. will do next time.

Thanks for the info Oz.

Been busy taking the rest of the head bolts off and also the manifold studs, thankfully i got them all of without any braking..

I then started working on taking the timing chain cover off.. :?

I worked out i needed to use one of my now many pulling tools with my braker bar

I then got the cover off, didn't look like it had been off in a while..the oil had been baked on,so i gave it a good clean before taking the chain off, making sure i made a note of where the marks where..the chain is very loose on the sprockets and i couldn't find any info on when you should change it,so I'm going to change it anyway..

Will be ordering a few parts very soon,i need new manifold studs, head studs, timing cover gaskets.

I also took the oil pump off, very easy, was full of engine degreaser from when i cleaned out the sump etc,so gave that a good clean as well,so i will need a new gasket for that as well, the pump sprockets just sit on the cover ? theres a few ware marks but nothing bad, just looked wrong.?

Shall be looking at rubbing down the front axle tomorrow and hopefully spraying it in the next couple of days.

Ive resprayed the front axle and springs,i finally got the axle cover gasket through so thats now back on and filled with oil, wasn't sure if i was supposed to use a gasket sealant or not,but the gasket looked very rubbery,? not cork like i was expecting.?

I also took the front screen off,and had a look at the windscreen adjusters..lol . rusted solid..untill i attacked them with a soft blow hammer ,so they are now back on the truck in working order, apart from the screen frame thats about had it..i will see if i can restore that later but i think i may have to buy one from MWM..Must have attached too many pictures to this thread as it won't let me add a picture of the adjuster ..

That is quite a bit of progress! We both seem to be dancing around the same areas of restoration. It has been fun to compare notes and share as we both progress.

I also received my rear upper\lower engine mounts. My originals had a steel sleeve in them wherein the mounting bolt passed. VPW said the new ones would have them installed, but they are not. what did you find in your mounts? What length of bolt did you use?

Hi Oz,

I managed to save the original engine mount bolts, the bolts themselves go through a steel sleeve as you say,i tried to get those off the bolts but they were stuck fast,i guess you could get a local engineering firm to make some sleeves, worth a try.Im working away till the weekend so i can't measure the bolt length ,i will let you know once I'm back.

Yes its been handy to compare what you doing ,like you say we are dancing round the same areas..

Don't worry about the bolt length. i found one of the remnants from mine. i will see what i can match up, although the drilled hole will be hard to find in town. I'll check carr mcmaster or one of those places on line to see what i can source.
