Hello,
Looks like you have a great and rewarding project with that winch model command car,
It seems you are well prepared to get this Rolling with all the spare parts you have acquired !
Looking forward to your updates on your restoration progress !

Cheers Raymond,
Yes still looking for a few parts but thats all the fun of it..
Just waiting for the tubes and flaps, the company that supplied the tyres couldn't get them..ive had three wheels blasted the ones i took off the front plus the spare ,I've sprayed the wheels and still need to spray the split rings, then hopefully i can put the tryes on,that should be fun ,should i chance it..!
Im currently looking at heavy duty jacks to hold the chassis up so i can take the axles and springs off,the 6 ton jacks go 700 high so they should do.
Still on the lookout for a guy that can weld the crack on the support bracket on the front cross member, nobody it would seem does mobile welding especially on a truck chassis, and it need welding before i put it back together..
So more spraying tomorrow.

So...you are going to try this without your own welder? I wouldn't get through the first morning. Just saying.

Re: Dodge WC-24/WC-7 Command car -project
I wish i could weld, would make things a lot easier.
Got the inner tubes and flaps in today so i have 3 wheels all made up ready to go once i finish the front steering and brakes.or maybe i swap over the rear wheels and strip them down ready for blasting, just worried about jacking the rear up when the front end is on axle stands..could go horribly wrong.
Started to sand the front end down ready for spraying, and taken all the old fuel / brake pipes off and the old wiring.
Had to hammer the brake pedal off the armature the thing had seized ,so I'm now looking for a new bushing for that. That was hard work..
Will add some pictures later.

Re: Dodge WC-24/WC-7 Command car -project
Hello,
You are making excellent progress on your Command Car, looking great !!!
Just remember ....
Safety First on all things !!!!
Be careful putting the new tires and rims together as they are the "old" lock ring style"
If you have a choice ... it would be safest to have a tire place mount them, with a cage, when airing them up.
I have not done any yet, but have heard that safety is very important with all these type rims,
If the ring pops off when filling it could be like a hand grenade !!!
Others may be able to chime in on the mounting of tires .
Never use questionable or rust damaged rims !!!
But with that said, your Command Car looks to be it great condition, so hopefully with items
that need welding you can get someone to handle it short order !
I have a small wire feed welder that runs on 110 electric here in Florida, and it really is easy to use, and I use an auto dimming welding mask helmet.
Really makes things easy. I also wear a twin cartridge respirator under the helmet to avoid all the fumes. It fits under there !!
It it also very easy to learn how to weld, especially small items and cracks and such.
The unit has a trigger handle, and you just pull the trigger and welding wire comes out at an adjustable speed.
I look forward to your updates, as this is such an exciting and worthwhile project !!!!
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: Dodge WC-24/WC-7 Command car -project
Cheers Ray,
Thank you for the advise on the tyres,I've put three on now, very carefully, thinking back the other day we used to change truck tyres with split rims when i was in the army, never had a problem i guess we were lucky, you do hear of people being hurt by flying rims..one ring was very pitted so i think i should change it..
Ive been busy sanding and priming the front brake drums and back plates / steering knuckle parts and bit of the chassis, should be able to spray them green tomorrow .
Heres the brake pedal sitting under the truck after having spend a lot of effort getting the dam thing off..

Beautiful !!!
You are making progress every day, looking good !!
Good idea to replace that ring, and it is also good that you have experience with the type of rims !
Keep us posted !

Re: Dodge WC-24/WC-7 Command car -project
Had a fun time today as my parts truck turned up ,so I've been very busy stripping it down.it even came with the key still in the ignition, and a spare on wire under the dash, very handy..
So tomorrow i should be able to take the engine out, everything is disconnected ready to go.
It has the early style wings with holes for the marker light to fit on the headlight.

Re: Dodge WC-24/WC-7 Command car -project
Thanks for your kind words Ray,
I think the ignition is a later aftermarket thing looking at it more closely,so not such a great find after all..
Took the fuel tank out and is probably as bad as the one i already have, should get it welded i guess, should be able to make one good one out of 2.?
Finished painting all the parts for the steering and brake parts, only thing is i got carried away and painted the inside of the brake support plate,i think it should stay red oxide ?
Anyway,I've ordered a bunch of parts that i shall be picking up at the War And Peace show next week.and managed to score a rear window frame for the soft top..wahoo..!
