The TM indicates 7/16-20 bolts and nuts, but does not specify a length. the washer as listed as 2" diameter.. The cotter pin is listed a 3/32 x 1 1/2" I measured the one I have and it is 3 1/4" long. the spacer ID accepts the bolt and it's OD is 5/8 and 2 1/4" long.

Was looking at your engine photos. when i took the timing chain cover off my engine looked the same. Lots of baked on carbon and oil. The timing chain was loose as well, and I'm replacing it also. Check your valves in the guides as mine had lots of noticeable side to side play, so the guides will be replaced. Ca'n wait to see your engine progress.

Are you painting gray or silver?

Yes Oz,the timing chain was covered in carbon and oil ,didn't look as though it had been changed in a long time..its definatly being changed, also when i did a compression check before taking the head off i had bad or no compression ,when i took the valve cover off i noticed the valves where sticking ,I've not checked to see if there is any movement in them but I'm going to replace them anyway.
I will need that engine stand and a valve compression tool to go any further though,so that may be in a few months now.
I will be interested to see your engine when you get it back..

Hi Paul,
Your welcome, not much smaller than a Motorbike, but even then, they can take awhile :(

The photo of the 1/2, I saw it on the HMVF forum, I think that it was at an event at Steve Carr's daugthers school. I asked him to use the photo. I did see Zephs CC, Posted a photo of a 1/2 ton CC that I saw when in Australia, it had side screens, they look ugly. I check out all of Zephs threads, good craftmanship, and he never has any help, apart from the dogs

I spend too much time looking at peoples resto's instead of doing my own

Ok, keep up the good work, really enjoying it.

Ok heres a new post,I've been working away a lot so haven't got to do much at all,so today i decided to open up my transfer case to see what it was like, and I'm glad to say it looks great, although i do have a couple of chipped teeth on what i think is the drive gear,so I'm hoping i can get away with not replacing it,it doesn't look too bad.
Pictures attached.

Heres the original manuals I've been using to go by,the newer manual came through from Italy a couple of weeks back,it has a reprint date of 1985..?!

Very useful manuals and a must if you have a 1/2 ton..

I would replace the chipped gear if possible. I actually have an old transfer case that I was taking a few things from. Let me see if I can crack that thing open and see how the gears are. If they are good. I can donate the gear to your project if you are interested. I likely would never use it, and I would like to see it go to a good project. Hopefully, I can give it a go to disassemble the t-case tomorrow and let you know.

Finally got a new driven gear for my transfer case, new old stock from Holland, all fitted ,nice easy job.all gaskets replaced and shims checked, going by the wear on the pinions it looks like i will probably have to replace them.

Also finished putting my MU winch together, all new gaskets fitted and finally back in the frame, and only a few scratches to the paint work..looking at other peoples restorations i don't know how they keep the previously restored and freshly painted parts from getting marked and dirty,i obviously need a bigger garage..
