1/2 Ton Air Cleaner question

Post by Michael O. » Sat Jun 17, 2017 2:10 pm

Still learning my way around 1/2 Ton Dodges. I have what I thought was an NOS air cleaner but noticed that on restored vehicles the paint is either done in semi-gloss or gloss black. My air cleaner is flat black. In your best opinion, was my air cleaner refinished/restored? Does the decal look correct? Should I repaint it in either gloss or semi-gloss black?

Thanks in advance! Again, I'm more of a g503 kind of guy and I'm trying to become better educated on g505's...so please excuse my ignorance.

HI Michael,

Not 100% sure, but I would say that it has been repainted and a decal added. I have had a couple of NOS Dodge air cleaners and they were gloss black.

Gloss or semi gloss black would be correct.

That is a very nice looking filter unit. I would leave it alone, but if you want a gloss look to the paint, just spray (rattle can) a couple of light coats of
gloss clear or satin. That way you can save the decal. Mike

The strange thing about this air cleaner is that it doesn't look as if it's been restored. If it was it's been a while as everything on and in it looks new.

Good idea on the clear gloss finish....might explode that option.

Are the reproduction decals exactly like the originals or are there tell tale differences?
