WASPS IN MY '37

Post by Joe Gopan » Sun Jun 11, 2017 12:18 pm

M-37's are the worst wasp magnet I have experienced. My yard M-37 fired right up on its own today after 6 months. I should have checked it over closer, but didn't. The wasps were bailing out from everywhere, from seats, dash, under the hood, you name it. I did not panic and spent 20 minutes using it around the yard. Not one sting.

Lucky.
I keep moth balls in my M37 and the wasps do not like that. Neither do mice.

I like the challenge. I got this surplus from a town in NH back in 84, They had it all running and waiting for me. They had supposedly hosed out the several wasp nests in the cab. The 168 mile drive from Center Conway to my house was interesting to say the least with Wasps coming out from under the seat and around the cab during the drive.

I worked heavy construction for several years as a welder. I saw a bulldozer operator hit a huge nest of ground hornets. He sat perfectly still and did not move a muscle. They went for the cooling fan blade on the engine. you could hear the "pings" as they hit the blades. After a while, it got less and less. When the pinging stop, he started work back up again....

Ben,
My mind runs on a special channel.
"WASPS" in my 37!
I was picturing a few glamorous photos of some beautiful long - legged dames and of course your "37" :?
But yeah we have wasps (lower case) here as well. LOL

In some parts of Australia we have mud dauber wasps that will fill any small opening with mud. If you leave a brake line, brake hose, fuel line, vacuum line etc disconnected and uncapped they will plug it for you. This can be a particular hazard with aircraft pitot tubes which must be covered at all times when on the ground in these areas.

David,
We also have the mud daubers here in the central USA.
Some fill the holes, and others build large adobe type complexes behind instrument panels and other such places.
