Hi OZ
Yes that bracket you post is incorrect that's for later wartime it use same pulley as jeep.
The bracket Ernie post is the correct early one, for short pulley.
Glad you got one now.

Cheers Peter
Thanks for that confirmation. Soon we will be back on track. I hope this helps others as it has helped me.

Hey Ozzie,
That looks like the CC#859228 bracket that will match up perfectly with your GEW-4803 Gen. Gee, wish I would have known about Ernie 25-30 years ago when I was looking for parts to put my truck together. As they say “It’s a Dodge Thing”. :D

While I await other parts, I'm on the fuel tank today.
1. Cut and bent the baffles for the fuel tank.
2. I cut holes in the baffles to make it easier to get in and work with the pick up tube when I do the tank liner. It somewhat reduces the effectiveness of the baffles, but it made life easier for me and will allow the tank liner to flow back and forth easier when that times comes.
3. Welded the baffles in. Had to be careful on the lowest setting the potential for blow through was still great. Got them in though. Still learning how to weld
4. Cut a closure for the tank to and added the hole for the sending unit. I will drill holes for the screw and then use JB weld to attack the nuts onto the inside f the cover plate. When the JB is dry, I'll remove the screws and sending unit and weld the nuts in place. This way I don't have to figure out how to make 5 exactly drilled and tapped holes with my limited tools. Perhaps I'll rethink that plan, but If i drill and tap for the screws, I am going to have to put another layer on the underside to give enough bite for the threads.
5. When this is all done, I am going to take it in to have it TIG welded. The last pic shows the Fuel Sending Unit sitting in it's recess. Holes for screws not yet drilled.

Still thinking through the liner process. Have to figure out the best way to keep the pick up tube clear if I close it up first it will be harder, vs do the liner first with the main cover off, then TIG up the cover and leave that part unlined.

Called several welders in the area... "We're sorry, but our insurance company won't let us weld fuel tanks any more." or words to that effect at every call.

Perhaps I need to practice with my MIG system to learn how not to blow through the metal.

Going to go read Zeph's posts on tank details. 8)

Spent some time reading and thinking about this. I cut a square plate and drilled a matching hole the same size as the sending unit. I will weld this to the bottom inside of the closure plate. The fuel sending unit cover is thick and I can take off the delicate components. I will clamp it on my drill press and drill then tap the screw holes through the double mounting plate using the sending cover as a guide. This should work better than the screws on the bottom-dealy-thingy.

Will do that after sleeping on the idea.

Today was install a bunch of crap on the Dodge day. Here are some pics starting with the battery cables from VMV. They look very nice and seem to fit well. Cloth covered.

I finished the manifold and heat shield for the fuel pump. I blasted it and painted it with black 1500 degree manifold paint. I followed the TM with regards to the installation of the manifold hardware. NOTE: Install the two center upper nuts first as you cannot get the nuts over the studs with the manifold sucked down onto the block.

Exhaust is on going. I could not get anything to fit, so i called John at VPW. They sell a 3/4 ton system that requires some mods.

1. Install the first bracket with two metal support straps forward of the muffler on their original locating hole in the frame as shown in the pic. You must then use a conventional muffler clamp to secure the muffler to the pipe. If you try and cut the pipe so the muffler is in line with the clamp, it will hit the transfer case.

2. The rear exhaust pipe is a 3/4 ton pipe. You will have to cut off the front "S" bend so it makes the proper 1/2 ton bend and can be correctly installed. I'll post images of that when I get there. Here is the progress so far. I still need to tighten down the front clamp and bracket. I left it loose to help align the bolt holes. Also the holes in the brackets are too small for the "U"=bolts that come with the bracket kit. The holes have to be drilled out. Same for the frame mounting hardware. Or use smaller bolts.

In my second image you can see where the clamp is just holding the header pipe secure and is not close to the muffler. Its a secure system though.

I used some header paint to coat mine and give them some protection. We'll see how that works over time.

I blasted and painted my cross over plate for the top of the manifold. I did notice a complete crack in the plate between two mounting holes. I have another to replace it with, but need to prep and paint it. Will get to that soon. I attached the carb to some short studs just to get it out of the way. When my governor comes in I'll be able to get this mounted up properly and start connecting lines. I will need longer studs, or do as Zeph did and make some.

I also mounted the dizzy adjustment plate and the brake stop switch. My final task was to weld the adjustment bolt to the fuel tank strap that was broken.

I also posted an image of the fuel sending unit plate drilled and tapped for the attachment screws. Fits perfectly on the reinforced plate. I think I will take this out to have it TIG welded closed before coating with my tank sealer.
