Re: WW2 Dodge Data Needed

I have....what I believe to be a Dodge WC-12 1/2 ton pickup. It has dual wheels and closed cab. Non-original 1953 Dodge Red-Ram 241 c.i. engine. Pretty much stock...except for the engine. The question I have is the frame number is 8670351. A few thousand numbers lower than the normal range....?? I can't find any data plates or rivet holes where they were. No door post or firewall number....?? I would appreciate any help. And I will follow up later with any more info, that I may find later. I'd like to post a pic....??

Hi David,

At first glance your Dodge 1/2 ton # 8670351 should have been a WC-4 open cab. Either it has been re-bodied or the serial number may have been re-assigned to a later contract by Dodge for whatever reason. Writing or emailing the Chrysler archives for the original build card may answer some the the unknowns about your truck. I believe the cost of the build card copy is $35.00.

Tom, I just recovered the hood number on my Dodge carryall, WC-26. I don't know what to think of the number, it seams to low. The data follows, I would like to know what you think.

Ser # 81512402
Body tag # 4149-2974
number recovered on my hood W-236770

If you look at the Tm-10-1199 production started at W-2052397, but I have, in the past found mistakes in the manuals.........Thank You. Phil H

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the photo and the data.

I believe hood number W-236770 should have been on a WC-21. From my Dodge database and studies, your WC-26 should have had a hood number in the mid 2053xxx range. Carryalls are considered a reconnaissance class vehicle like a command car so they had hood numbers starting with 20xxxxxx.

It look like the DoD of your carryall should have been late ( second half ) of Nov. '41. Do you have the build card for this vehicle ?

Sorry I am not of more help.

No build card yet. This is a puzzle, I'm sure the hood is orginal to the truck..The TM 10-1199 list in the specifacation chart has two contracts for the WC26. The second contract list, "none" for the registration number. I wonder if the number could have been put on later?

Tom, here is a copy of the build card for my WC-4. I hope it's a useful addition to your archives. Any bits of information you can interpret for me would be appreciated!

Hi in the Forum!
I have reasently seen a Dodge WC55, it was bought from the US Army by the Fire Fighting Team from the Village "Lohnsburg" (Austria) in 1948 and is still there.

Chass.No.: 815 303 10,
Engine Nr.: T214 6154,
Body Tag: 4290-2621
It is still licensed and running fine, still driven by the same Person since 1948. After a few days I will try to upload some Pictures if wanted.

Best regards,
Henry.

WC-52

Serial # 81681612
Cowl Tag# 4290-99985
Build date- 24 December 1943

No hood number recovered, Tom. May I get your educated guess as to what may be likely a close number?
