Post by Tom Wolboldt » Sat Aug 02, 2014 5:06 pm

Hello WW2 Dodge owners,

I am looking for the following data from the G505, G502, G507 series of truck to expand my Dodge databases:

Photo of the build card.
Frame number.
Date of Delivery ( from an original data plate ).
Hood number and if found in blue drab or white.
Body tag number.
Body number ( stamped into firewall below filterette connections on some models ).
Motor serial number.

Thanks in advance for any shared data as it will help the hobby in the future !!!

Info from the WC-1 closed cab pickup I used to own. I sold it back in 1996:

Photo of the build card. Don't have one.
Frame number. 8665164
Date of Delivery ( from an original data plate ). 4-1-41
Hood number and if found in blue drab or white. W27178, Blue Drab on the hood. I also found it stenciled on the windshield header between the wiper openings (in 1" numbers, white paint)
Body tag number. I don't have it but I recall it was seven from the last one in a list in a Dodge book I used to own.
Body number ( stamped into firewall below filterette connections on some models ). Don't remember seeing one.
Motor serial number. Did not have the original engine when I bought it.

Hope this helps!

Hi Bo,

Seems you have a: "86 = Gun motor carriage " or a M6/WC55, originally sporting a 37 mm anti tank gun.

Hi Bo,

Thanks for the data !

Since the data plate is rusty I take it your WC-55 was Government converted into a WC-52 in 06/43.

Does the bed have the large cap gas tank filler ?

Hi Gordon,

Yes, I have. I believe there are many owners that do not use that site so I have posted here plus I am looking for data not found there. It will only be a short time until I can read all of the important data on the build cards ( at least for the 3/4 and 1 1/2 tons for now ).

Tom...

I don't know the WC inside and out like I do my GPW. There is definitely a learning curve to it. (Goran-I do a lot of reading over on the Dodge forum!). As for the gas tank...compared to my '45 GPW...the cap seems incredibly small! The truck was definitely a WC55. All I can really see that is left over are the double leaf springs in the rear. I found 7-pointed stars (large one on hood, 2 on the sides) and with a bit of research found that those are the markings of the 7th Service Command. There was also another stencil on the drivers side that referenced Ft. Wood MO. I have yet to figure out the rest of the lines...there is more to it.

This is a link to my facebook album that has a ton of pictures. I think it is a public album so have a look. Let me know if you need a picture of anything specific. I haven't updated it lately since I've put its refurbishment on hold.

Hi there!

i have a WC52 since about 20 years ( I bought it 1988), but using it only since the last two years. My Dodge was left by the US Army in Austria and the Austrian Army continued using it. I have been told that my Dodge has an Engine, older than the vehicle and the body is one year younger than the chassis.
Chassis No.: 816 439 36
Eng. No.: T214 25 872
Body No. found under the left engine hood: 4290 - 162859
Hood - and other numbers may be still on the vehicle but not yet seen, as the Austrian Army has painted the vehicle and this paint is still on (not yet removed)
the Austrian Army has made some modification on it - I don`t know what it was used for.
the vehicle is licensed for civillian traffic and used on - and offroad sometimes.
I will try to upload pitures of the vehicle and of the build card from Chrysler corporation - hope it works.

I’ll post this is a few places
I have owned these trucks for about 15 years, but just got around to getting their build cards. My WC57 is quite original. It has the original engine, body and hood numbers. It was repainted by the military once which repositioned the stars on the hood, body and tailgate. It was painted silver after the war which preserved the paint underneath. It has the stencil “ FOR AMERIACAL DIVIVISION” on a front fender which is bleeding through the silver paint. The WC52 is an Arizona truck and looks to be an ex- Air Force vehicle as you could see the blue on it. Although it had sat for a very long time, the truck was pretty pristine, with the exception of the wood bed which was dried out and falling apart. I knew it was a late model truck and appeared unmolested/changed, but when I got the build card I was surprised that the information on it didn’t match. Based on a build card from the G503 under ” Dodge Data Needed” Aug 3 2014,Goranwc51, my truck was built a month before his, but has a later serial #. The motor and body numbers on the Build Card fall into line with what Goran51’s shows, seeing that it was made the previous month. (I have found a build card on Sylia’s Command Car site that has the same confusion regarding my WC57…my serial # is higher than a another Command Car built a month later but the other numbers coincide if you look back a month…looking at the posted serial number lists, I see the numerous times). Back to the WC52, although the truck was built in January of 1945, the actual engine number, I’m guessing,, appears to be from April 1943 range and the actual body number is post June 1945. The engine is 12 volts with late war accessories and doesn’t have a rebuild tag. The body model # on the card is 66; the body tag # is 4290. It had no data plates.
So, anyone know of an explanation for the serial number issue and does the 66 in the Body Model # field on the Build Card translate into a 4290 on the Budd Body Tag?

Tim

Here’s the info from the cards: From the truck:
WC57:

WC52:
