No Creep
from what i have found and researched
All T207s and T211s were silver. The gray did not start until late in the T215 series
All I know is the original color under my T214 replacement engine is SILVER.

The machine shop finished boring the cylinders to 0.060" over. All six look good. Also my parts for the engine rebuild came in today" bearings, gaskets, seals, guides, pistons, timing gear and chain, oil pump, etc.

About the engine color; I considered doing my WC6 T207 engine in silver but just couldn't pull that trigger. the color seems horrible! So I went with Grey which was what i'm told an appropriate color if the engine was ever pulled and put back in by the military. Its a good story and i'll go with that. Mine will not be judged or shown.
the grey looks really good. I probably took it too far and did the bellhousing and transmission without thinking because that was the color for the GPW that I restored  I can always fix that though.
for what its worth,
a friend of mine (who has restored some downright beautiful WCs) said the color is so hideous to look at that it won't be docked points while being judged at National, if silver is not used  I can't verify that statement, its just what I was told lol

hi Rondo
My WC55/52 was dark gray, the truck went through many rebuilds. i repainted it that color
I do agree with you about the smoke gray, which is correct for the 3/4 tons, it is a horrible color
I am partial to the silver thought :D

I will always love and miss you.

The cylinders were honed today and that light honing removed about 99% of the remaining shadows and imperfections in the walls. They were miked and found to be right at 3.310" or 0.060" over the standard 3.250" My new 60 over pistons are reported to have fit nicely. Next Monday the machine shop will tackle the crankshaft.

Hi Ozzie,
I see things are progressing nicely. Look at it this way. Your frame is a T-215 frame right? See if you can find out from the serial number if the motor for that frame was painted Silver or Grey. The motor you are rebuilding is a T-214 right. That motor was painted grey out of the factory. Your cab is a T-211 WC-12 cab. Motor was painted silver. See what I mean, lots of ways to go. Remember your truck will be like mine, made up of different parts. Some restorers call these kind of vehicles "Salad" vehicles. Who gives a rat's a.. what they call them. You paint the motor with the color that you are most comfortable with. Now, if you are going to enter this truck in competitive truck meets, that's a whole horse of a different "Color". :D

No plan on entering for show. Will have to think about all those points. You make a great point regarding the parts. The WC was originally from the T125 contract. The engine and body came together, although the engine was replaced at some time with the 1944 T214 engine. My frame is a CC frame since the orignal was so buggered up. I think I will just decide what will be more aesthetic in the end, which is probably grey. This will probably turn away the purists when it comes to selling it, but such is life.

Thank you Joe, and the same to you. I met Gunny at the Little Rock MVPA several years ago. He signed autographs for my two sons. A decent character he is.

Re-learned the lesson that NOS does not mean bolt on and go. Here is the NOS steering box. I'm glad I followed Joe's advice on changing out the gaskets. I'll need to clean this out well and cut a new gasket.
