WC26 Engine ID Help
I have a WC26 and I am trying to ID the engine in it. It has a 23" head, a tag that states it is a 230 ci engine and the numbers stamped are N45735. It is my understanding the correct engine should be stamped starting with T214- correct? Any idea what the N45735 came out of? I have looked on several forums/sites and don't see anything that references a stamping that starts with "N". Thanks!

Re: WC26 Engine ID Help
Not sure about the N
But a WC26 would have an engine number starting with T-215
T-214 were used in the 3/4 tons, WC51 through WC61

You are correct. Sorry, got my wires crossed. I'm wondering if the "45" part of the number is a date and possibly a wartime replacement. I just don't know where to verify this.

Look closer, it could be "IND" prefix for Industrial engine application. Many of the Chrysler flat head engine numbers are poorly stamped at the factory.

My friend's WC-56 has a similar number for a serial. It has a 1961 military rebuild tag from France on it. Maybe it's a replacement block?

Re: WC26 Engine ID Help
Dirtfab,
The same stamping numbers are on a engine is in a WC-4. Engine number is N28696, has the same Mopar tag to the port side or left side of these stamped letter and numbers on the block. Can you post photos of an overall shot of the engine showing both sides of the engine ?
Thanks,
Frank
