Im not sure what you are getting at. Is there something wrong with what he is selling? Condition is seen in the images.

Well It "kind" of looks like what is left of some cosmoline or some other type of preservative that has been exposed to the elements for a long time. On the other hand I am not sure why the mounting plate would be attached to a case that was new. Might be a good used case that was put back into the supply system. He is not calling it NOS or new. He does say "Nice take off condition" which would mean a used part to me.. Kind of a conflicting statement when you are thinking of something in Cosmoline. Maybe someone needs to ask the seller to clarify it more.

M38A1MD is as honest as the day is long. It's possible the T-84 in question a surplus serviceable part that was inspected, corrosion treated with preservative and put back into "Serviceable Parts"
I have done business with this gentleman for years, he is AOK in my book.

The guy may be a ok to you Joel but that add is sure misleading !!!
It`s implying it is almost NOS.
Cosmolene ??? you gotta be kidding me !!!!
But it has it`s mounting plate attached well rusty
As well as the center shifter fork guide rail (also very rusty)
With that in mind in his description of good used sure makes me wonder the standard of judgement to come to that assessment ???
There`s no mention of the condition of the cluster shaft thrush surfaces either or the condition of the front bearing recess.

Not all storage is ideal, it's 75 years old and a lot happens over the years. Close inspection may reveal perfect wear surfaces. Am sure this seller who has a very good reputation is not out to stick anyone with this gear box. This seller does very good at seeking sources of old stock from long ago dealers.

Have you seen all of the Pictures Joel ?
He may be OK but that description needs editing
As it is insinuating it`s something more than it is.

I can see why "take-off condition" and "cosmolene" are misleading. But seriously, if you're considering buying it or are simply being an "eBay Police" so others are not misled, why don't you send him a message directly?

5,361 feedback with a 99.8% rating, and an eBay member since 1999?? I'd buy from him in heartbeat!

Remember, not all who sell MV Parts are 100% fluent in the mechanical details of their parts, this case is worth consideration, am sure the seller would set it aside for further inspection. If it is OK and just needs cleaning, this rare case is worth much more.

The date code looks different from the usual style I'm used to seeing: L2 0-2

Also, like one of the cover bolts (left front) has broken off and an attempt has been made to drill it out?

It`s not a matter of being ebay police or anything else. There`s people on here all to enthusiastic to jump in and buy something like this just to have a T84.
Not everyone is an expert.
A seller with 5,000 plus feedback should know better by now
All you guys standing up then You buy it
I still see it`s on there
What no takers.
But it could be worth even more !!!!
Joel mentioned put it aside
What on auction ????
Lets just put the whole detail this seller has stated.
"Nice take off condition. Cosmolene. Some minor surface rust from long term warehouse storage and minor exposure to moisuture. No deep rust or pitting".
Ok there it is

Nice take off condition ?? when exactly was it nice ?? 1945 !!!!
Cosmolene ?? So where is this Cosmolene then, looks more like hardened grease and crap stuck in the outside crevasses
Some minor surface rust ??? Minor ?? What ??? the kind that can be removed with a wire brush and a bit of sand paper ??
Long term warehouse storage, Geez makes one wonder if it even had a roof on it !!!!
minor exposure to moisture, looks more like left outside for a few years
No deep rust or pits, how deep is deep ?
looking at the pits in the cover surface, how bad is the really important surfaces.
Sure top surface not to much of a worry
But no matter how rare that case is, could even be pre war and out of a willys truck or an MA case for all I know
Why for why write a description like that.?????
If I was selling it I`d have described it as rusty may need machining to be usable.
Not all that misleading garbage about nice take off condition
Or the word Cosmolene
That description was to deceive and to imply that with a five minute wire brush etc it would be good to go !!!
not that ideally it needs decking and possible surface work on the cluster thrust face surface and checking the front bearing recess
Joel mentioned it could be worth more
So lets just see
It`s not a pass side fill so that rules that one out
Cost of min $150 plus almost a third again for shipping
be better off in the long run to pay Ron $1500 for one rebuilt and done with it !!!!!

What does astound me on here is all the replies bar Michaels was in support of some kind to this seller.
And all those are ones with a certain amount of expertise
This forum has a great deal of new owners and enthusiasts all to often ripped off or hoodwinked by sales such as this.
Sure it MIGHT and I say MIGHT be usable but certainly not without some kind of machining to be assessed as Nice.
My original post was to make such new comers aware it`s a misleading advert, Which it sure is.
One post stated I`d buy it with a feedback like that
My answer well whens that going to happen ???
Another "It`s worth more " Really !!! Maybe after spending $300 plus it might be !!!
Not all storage is ideal!!! Ideal it would have been better preserved in a bucket of water !!!
The seller goes under the ID of M38A1MD
"May not be experienced " Wow !!!!! but he obviously knows what an M38A1 is, to also know the MD after it AND with a 5k + feedback what`s he been selling GI joe`s ????
"As Honest as the days long" ??? Now that`s really nice to know and heart warming !!!!! lol
Ask the seller ? Why if he can`t describe it truthfully in the first place he sure ain`t with a question is he ??
It`s a sad day I must say when guys with experience come out in support of such an add no matter where it was.
And on another page on here giving advice
