I don't think it was a good idea either, but the cab(fenders, etc) didn't get scrapped, and if someone really wanted a gun-ring closed cab for their chassis, they could own one.
A lot of things are purchased for less than their advertised price, plus getting the chance to scare the heck out of your military purist friend when you pull it in their driveway may be worth the price of admission.

You guy take the cake ! People like you are one of the reasons why I dropped out of the MVPA. I can tell you that the young man that built this thing out of a pile of rusted out junk that I gave him is one of the best Mechanics I've seen. The Meth head Hillbilly comment is TOTALLY UNCALLED FOR ! He built this with very little money and has made a fun little Rat Rod and yes he used a gun ring cab, but I know If I had tried to sell this cab to any of you people you would have just turned your nose up and said it was just too rusty to mess with. I'm no big fan of Rat Rods either, but I guess the old cab is better off this way rather than being crushed and shredded and turned into a Toyota Bonzi machine.

Ok maybe not a meth head ok.But super good mechanics don't build corn cobbed up hillbilly trucks and sell them for three grand where I come from if it's junk it's gets thrown out good mechanics live on there reputation on building quality cars and trucks I know been doing it for 35 years.

Re: 1942 CCKW Hack Job
I would imagine that there is over three grand in that truck if you figure parts and labor he's probably just trying to break even.
Really good mechanics usually don't feel unsecure and don't complain about other peoples work unless they have to fix it.
To each their own I say
I don't like hot rods or low riders even though I know the work and skill that goes in it but I keep my mouth shut and say nice things about what they have done

Edited for punctuation, grammar (a little) and spelling. Now that it makes sense....560sec wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2017 8:30 pmOk maybe not a meth head ok.But super good mechanics don't build corn cobbed up hillbilly trucks and sell them for three grand where I come from if it's junk it's gets thrown out good mechanics live on there reputation on building quality cars and trucks I know been doing it for 35 years.

I'll comment here.... um...have you LOOKED into the Rat Rod market at all? There are competitions on who can make the coolest thing out of a pile of parts in a set amount of time. They win quite a bit of money doing it and don't spend all that much. And then there are the high end hot rods called Rat Rods.....BIG BUCKS. They can also be mechanically sound pristine machines under what looks rusty. These things are built by smart people with lots of creativity and the ability to speak English.... You are an insult to Hillbillies everywhere.
The purists here don't like what's been done with that gun ring truck, but then again we bitch about pretty much everything. It is hard to get a 75 year old thing pure. It is hard not to cut corners.... I've got a near factory GPW. I will likely never do it again. It is too painful to find and buy all the stuff and get one "pure and right." I won't be showing off my 37 Commercial Ford around here either, because I'm building what I want. It will be fun, and I give two flips what anyone around here says about my stuff anyway. Yeah, you can sharpshoot something on my GPW. Go ahead. Odds are, I already know what bitch you've got. Bring it.
