Hitlers Merc.

Post by Mark Jesic » Tue Jul 26, 2016 11:48 pm

Am i correct in believing that Hitlers Mercedes is at the Aberdeen museum in the USA, im aware he had a few of them, but is this where his main one is located ? If so what was the story of it getting there, and what would be its value, any information would be extremely helpful, thanks.

Hi Mark,

Around 30 years ago there was a magazine called Wheels and Tracks here in the UK. They did an article about them, I think. I will have a look later to see if I can find my copy.

Mark,

I have just had a look at the article. Sorry, I was wrong, it was about the history of a Grosser Mercedes, which is alleged to have been used by Goring. Try getting a copy of W&T number 4 from 1983. Mentioned in it, is another article about another Grosser which was in the Canadian War Musuem at the time, which was in After The Battle number 35. I don't know if you have heard of these 2 magazines? but they where very good.
Regards, Dave

Thanks for your efforts Dave, i have seen a couple of wheels and tracks, yes a good magazine. I see you live in England like me, so would you have watched Combat Dealers on Quest channel ? There is a guy who lives just outside Birmingham {my manor} who had a warehouse full of militaria. In the corner was a Merc, one of Hitlers fleet, it was one of the smaller ones. There was a handle at the top of the windscreen. The guy who starred in the programme, Bruce, asked him if it was Hitlers and was it for sale ? Yes and yes was the answer ,then came the hammer blow. :I will start negotiating at £7 million. I will stick with the jeep Dave.

No Worries Mark,

In fact, it took me back a bit :) to when I bought them 33 years ago

I have seen a couple of episodes of Combat Dealers  To be honest it's a load of rubbish, set up like all the TV programmes knowadays. Bruce reminds me of Wallace from Wallace and Gromit, with that big silly grin. I hope that you don't know him?

Yes Mark, I would stick with the Jeep. I see that you have a Slattie :D, is it a low windscreen, no glovebox edition? A friend of mine has one. think it is 11th or 13th Dec 1941.

My neighbour that is 95 come from Aston and work at BSA most of his working live.

Cheers DAVE

Hi Dave, no i dont know Bruce, and yes i think they do over dramatize that programme, although i do find some of it interesting. My Slattie, its the standard windshield, i think the shorter one was stopped in early Dec 41, mine also has no glovebox, manufactured 13 Feb 1942, no 119696. what a fantastic hobby we have.

Yes it is :) Yes sometime in Dec 41 the taller windscreen appeared. That's an easy serial number to remember.

Cheers Dave, before my Slattie, i had a Willys MB, D.O.D. June 17 1945, the Norwegian Army had it before me, and undersealed it. It was a cracking jeep and i deeply regretted selling it, so after 5 empty years i bought my Slattie from a guy in Suffolk, who amazingly knew the geezer who bought my previous jeep, and still owns it. Talk about a small world. Where are you located ?
