Original Capstan Winch for G503,G504, G179 Vehicles THE ULTIMATE ACCESSORY
I have a very rare and original, professionally rebuilt and like new, Capstan winch which fits all Willys MB, Ford GPW, Ford GPA, and Studebaker M29C "Weasel" models. This winch is ready to be bolted directly to your jeep to begin using. These winches are almost never available for purchase and when they are, are usually missing pieces and require a full rebuild. You will probably never find one this ready to go anywhere else.
Asking $6000 OBO.
This winch is listed locally and on other websites and could be removed at anytime. Worldwide shipping available, shipping costs will be determined at the time of sale.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't original WW2 capstan winches have a 4 screw top cover?
Also not to be rude, but I'd be expecting another kind of paint on a 6000$ professionaly rebuilt item, and also the rare fitting parts like steering arm or pulley

Re: Original Capstan Winch for G503,G504, G179 Vehicles THE ULTIMATE ACCESSORY
“Complete” and ready to bolt on EXCEPT for the minor details like the engine crank pulley, mating part for said pulley, support bracket for said apparatus, spring buffer spacers, pitman arm.
Yip...she’s ready to use alright. After you spend another couple grand on parts and a few hours fixing that terrible paint job.
Oh...AND shipping is extra to add insult to injury.
Best offer....drop a zero.
Alternatively....put the jeep back on it.

Re: Original Capstan Winch for G503,G504, G179 Vehicles THE ULTIMATE ACCESSORY
First off, let me thank everyone for their input, no matter how negative some of them may be. As a bit of a Rebuttal to some of the comments;
First the claim that this is of the civilian type: It very well could be civilian, or military, there is actually no way to really tell, if you know the history of the capston winch for jeeps, From an article by John Vetter published in "Army Motors #19 (1981)" "The late approval of the kit (1944) resulted in the availability after the war of complete kits on the surplus market through the early 1970's. Today this desirable accessory must usually be pieced together using parts from many sources." This means that there were very few put into service during the war. The only difference between the 3 bolt cap and the 4 bolt cap is the manufacturer. The 4 bolt cap is a Braden J2 (The most common winch used after the war), while this one with 3 is a Willys manufactured winch. There is also Link Belt, Fairey, Aeroparts, and Ramsey brands out there. All of which have a 3 bolt cap. All of these types of winches can be found on www.1942willys.com So unless you can show me where the military only uised the Braden Brand, then it is highly feesable that they also used the willys brand as well, especially since willys produced the most jeeps for the military during the war. Not to mention, this unit was removed from a wartime willys jeep by a museum.
Next, calling it not professionally built due to its poor paint job; the paint applied to it is not meant to be the final coating. It is a green colored primer that has been applied simply for corrosion protection. The entire unit was sand blasted and some sort of coating was req to prevent corrosion. The final paint color would be up to the owner so that they could match it to their jeep.
Third claim is calling it complete; ok, I can side with you on this and say that it is not complete simply because it does not have the engine side of things. However, through my research, it is the most complete original winch out there at the moment and is ready to be bolted onto your Jeep. So Lt.Luke, if you can find me a more complete kit than this one, Ill be happy to concede the entire point to you.
Given an aftermarket mounting plates are selling for about $800, drive shafts at $250, NOS worm gear at at $650, Ect. You maybe could piece one together to the stage of this one for about $6000, so I will lower my price to $5000 OBO= Or Best Offer

It’s old...but this one was $2k less for more. Given some inflation.....still not $6k
Want me to keep going? I’m sure I can find everything here cheaper. Probably not rebuilt. I’m sure whoever rebuilt it dI’d a fine job.

It is not the Braden that the Military used.
This appears to be the WO-640807 Capstan Winch for the CJ-2A. The complete kit is WO-647057.
Still, a RARE find.

We had a long post on the forum about 10 years ago about the correctness of the three bolt capstan winch made by Link Belt. I posted pictures of the original World War II blueprints for the Link Belt capstan winch dated November 1944. Since it was approved in 1944 it is correct for late model World War II Jeeps. The reason the army bought the link-belt model was because the earlier J2 Braden models had very weak brass gears that stripped under heavy load. The link belt was a more robust vs the J2 Braden design. So to help settle the argument as to whether or not to 3 bolt Link Belt is correct, the blueprints do support that is a correct winch for World War II Jeeps. I don't know if the threat is still here are the photos active. PM me if you want a picture of the blueprints. Gary Schultz, Andover NJ

The rear seam M1 helmets were not only approved, but also manufactured in late 44; but they still have not been issued before the end of ww2; which makes them ww2 on the paper, and yet incorrect for any ww2 representation

All the NOS Surplus Jeep Capstan Winch Kits I witnessed that were sold by the Gov't were the Braden. The kits included 10 leaf front springs. They were available during the 40's and 50's. I used to see them advertised in the "Rock and Dirt".
