"PKD. JUNE 49"

That should be a clue here...if that is the date under the paint smear.

I have a same type of box with the yellow painted corner, it originally contained generators for the g503. On the outside a decal was attached such as the one below. The box was shipped as part of the Marshallplan. This plan was initiated 3 years after the war by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the US George C. Marshall. With the packing date on this crate, it would fit within that date range.

I have also heard and have seen it myself that many of the yellow painted corner crates was a Ford thing. The crates I have seen at dealers contained mostly Ford parts.

Since you are keeping them I’ll offer my opinion on their value (I’m always cautious when someone seeks opinions on an items “value”. Quite often they turn around and post it in the For Sale section or put it up and sell it on eBay and then they don’t even offer me a cut for my appraisal services...lol).

I’m aware that sets of NOS GPW tire chains which sold at a Convention for $50 a box (one pair) also.

Hello my friend. Your chains are beautiful and just an idiot can think they have no price or the price of iron waste. If you want to sell, I'm willing to pay 600 dollars for them. Take care of yourself. Ales

Last year I seen a pair of NOS GPW chains on the Auction site being sold by the guy from the Netherlands and they ended up going for nearly 2K, it is hard to gauge the price but when 2 or more people really want them then anything can happen. I am hoping Joes motor pool start making them.

No more PM’s, please.

I haven’t even made my deal yet. I don’t even know if they are the same WEED chains.

Those bolted unmarked plywood covers are not GI. Seeing is believing, am positive that if the chains ever materialize a price will quickly be established. Crated 1/4 Ton Chains are not the only crated MV Chains with yellow corners.

This reminds me of the 70's "Shot Gun News" ad for WWII Jeeps discovered in Europe in what the advertiser believed were "in crates of three". The advertiser from Orilla Ontario indicated hose making a $500.00 deposit would have preference once everything was ironed out.
I called their bluff, the deal evaporated.
I still have the ad.
