SOLD 1944 MB Cross Country Jeep $6,000

Post by Nick_ » Sat Nov 04, 2017 2:05 pm

$6,000 SOLD

For sale a true WWII Jeep that has undergone a total frame-off refurbish. It runs, drives, and even stops.

This vehicle has its original serial data plate, as well as a dash tag for the "Cross County Kit." These Jeeps were originally equipped with large 7.50x16 tires and onboard air compressors. Few of these data tags are known to exist.

Here is a list of all the new parts and work put into the Jeep:
Transmission:
Rebuilt with new syncros, bearings, and gaskets
Input shaft

CJ2A Engine:
-12V alternator and ignition system
-Spark plugs, wires, coil, key switch, solenoid
-Cap, rotor, condenser
-Oil lines
-Fuel pump
-Radiator hoses
-Entire exhaust
-Clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, clutch cable
-Water pump

Brakes:
-Completely new brake system
-(master cylinder, wheel cylinders, brake lines, brake shoes)

Misc:
-All new gauges
-Speedometer cable
-Body and frame sanded down, primed, and painted
-Gauges
-Steering wheel

To be finished it will need a proper gas tank as the original was bad. It has the typical gear oil leaks. The engine does smoke if it idles for a while and you rev it up. Overall, this is a Jeep that you can hop in and go for a ride. Tons of work and parts have been put into this build to make it reliable and safe, especially the wear items. Feel free to call me anytime to check it out.

That is a really interesting data tag about the cross country 750x16 tires. Does anyone make repros of that data tag. I did a Cross Country jeep a few years ago and would have loved to have installed that data tag on it. Best wishes; Leo

If that was in England Nick, you would get around £14000 for it. None of my business but arent you selling it too cheaply ? I have seen basket case jeeps go for more than what you are asking.

Interesting..

We're the bodies some how "different" on cross country jeeps?

I mean I see an ax sheath but NO indents in the body for tools. Or were these areas filled during restoration?

I also see what looks like a well built military style tailgate. Standard ww2 jeeps don't have tailgates, but it looks like it was well done.

Is this a feature of the cross country jeep maybe?

Yeah they're pretty neat! Check out this thread: http://g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=328606#p328606

As for the body on this one - it has been modified. I believe someone covered the tool indents with bondo. They did the same thing to the toolbox lock areas which I knocked out. The tailgate is just a custom ordeal, but it is one of the better one's I've seen. This Jeep had a coat of 70's metallic paint, so I wonder if they were attempting a CJ look.

You might be thinking about the "jungle jeep" prototype? on those, the fenders were "raised" and the hood shortened to accommodate the 7.50x16 tires, and the rear wheel arches were opened up to follow the angular contour of the toolbox and inner fender well. They also had added some different hooks and shackles.

On both the Cross Country AND the JJ, the T1 air compressor was added, along with the hose box on the right fender apron (where everyone puts their feet). There should be some C-shaped stand offs under the spare tire bracket, and the gear drive adaptor to change the speedometer calibration for the larger tires.

The poster does not say if any of those parts are present, so the future owner may only be getting the provenance by way of the data tag. Still, an interesting vehicle for sure.

Jeep sold for $6,000.

Very disappointed in the community. I received a staggering number of calls and texts from G503 users who simply contacted to harass me about the details of the Jeep, and the price. One individual claimed to restore Jeeps for the Smithsonian! I hope no other sellers are experiencing this.

Congrats on the sale. I hope it enjoys its new home in Europe.
Europe? If by Europe you mean Louisville, KY then yes it will enjoy its new home with an Indianapolis-based reenactment group.

eBay fees? It sold on Craigslist. You are very quick to jump to conclusions. This is the epitome of the negative attitude surrounding the community. I was happy and the purchaser was happy. Let's leave it at that.
