GPW transfercase in cosmoline and crated (((SOLD)))

As some of you may know, I've obtained a container of g503 parts. One of the cooler items was a GPW transfercase, protected in cosmoline, in a military crate. First option goes to the forum. The tag attached states "Servicable August 1953". If didn't already have my transfercase complete I would clean this one, change the gaskets, and use it.

I have not removed it from the crate or taken any covers off. The case is GPW F marked and includes levers. Also has the complete external brake all protected in cosmoline.

If you are serious I can get estimates on shipping, however, due to its size and weight, I would rather not ship. I can deliver to tower park in September or I can make arrangements for delivery in Northern California. Also, there is a Fastenal near me. I'm asking $2350 + shipping. Price may seem like a bit much but this is straight from the military and I would have to say you don't see one like this every day. I can take more pics as requested. I will do my best to answer any questions.

It seems a shame to me, that it is worth more as a display piece than it is as a working piece of equipment. :cry: BW

Bought a rebuilt one dated '53 about ten years ago for $100. Since it says "serviceable" I would assume it to be a take-out or rebuild. Is there a rebuild tag on the top under that piece of wood? Is the rear cover plate flat between the bolts or does it have raised deformations which are GPW style?

As most of the people that have been around g503 for ten years plus can attest, prices just aren't what they were ten years ago. I promise I haven't been sitting on this for ten years after paying $100. I've seen rebuilders charge $1200 for a rebuilt, that requires a core, built with "all new quality parts" from who knows where, and doesn't include the parking brake. I think the asking price is fair for what you are getting; a GPW transfercase, with brake, from the military, protected in cosmoline, that's been in a crate for nearly 65 years. It hasn't been molested by bubba, it was determined to be "serviceable" by the military to go to war.

There is no rebuild tag under the wood. This is no take out. Rebuilt by the military maybe. I'll have to check the cover plate.

The rear cover plate doesn't appear to have the raised ribs between the bolt holes. This signifies that the rear cover is Spicer, not Ford. Somewhere along the way the original Ford cover was switched out.

I wish I could have had the opportunity to purchase that shipping container. I would be interested in a price list if it ever becomes available.

Since it was 1953, my guess is NOT NOS, but as I mentioned, it is either a takeout that was inspected for reuse OR a rebuilt unit.

There are thousands of items that were in that container. From nuts and bolts to transfercases. It would take months to catalog it and come up with a price list. There were a couple of fairly rare items in there but not a whole lot. If you are looking for something specific, shoot me a pm and I'll see if I've got it. Not looking to retire off of any g members but I didn't get the container for free.

This is still available and I'm getting ready to list it on the auction site at a fixed price. I am willing to ship to the CONUS at buyers expense. Shipping via UPS ground should be under $200 (this thing weighs nearly 130 lbs.). Before I list it and for any g members, I'll lower the price to $2000, PayPal friends and family, plus actual shipping. It won't be listed on the auction site at this price. I can email additional pics if needed.
