jeep jacks
Hi
Seems like it is time for the jeep jack tread again To get it started this time I took a picture of the different types I have found. Check out what you have and if it`s not in the picture, I would LOVE to recive a picture of it with a description.
Please have a look and let me know what you think is the correct p/n and when they where used.
Frank..

I had bought this (cheap !)in France.
I am pretty sure this jack is not correct, and most likely postwar: does anybody know what it is?

Frank, your photo is too fuzzy to read well.
This is the (WO-A-12268 jack) The Primary manufacturer was WALKER MFG. they were approved to supply their part #2181-AB also known as AJAX AUTO PARTS NO 2181; "W" & 1 1/2 shown on Jack.
The BOM for the MZ radio jeeps list it as AJAX AUTO PARTS NO 2181.

OK, Frank, I can see all the jacks better now and you have one that matches mine with a W and 1 1/2 on it.
Keith Buckley noted it was Released to Production 12/18/43.
So why don't we see more jacks if this jack replaced the A-1240? An approximate number of jacks, if they were issued starting in summer of 1944 is like 120,000. Where are these jacks?
The jack on the far right of your photo, Frank, appears to be made by the same manufacturer, that being Walker. We still don't know why that A.S.M.CO NO. 313 CAPACITY 1 1/2 TON jack is marked 41-J-66? Robin found a reference to a 41-J-66 screw jack... "I found this jack listed in the 1951 ORD 8 SNL G-503 as an accessory for the MB or GPW." He did not find a photo so we don't really know if the jack was a bottle type jack or a ratchet jacks as they can both be described as screw jacks.

Mark, the 41-J-66 reference is to be found in the official stockage number column, page 186, of SNL G-503,JAN 44. and again at page 221 of the same manual. However the jack -with- handle is listed as 1 1/2 Ton,page212.
They seem to use the same part number, for both types of jack, well before 1951.
I agree with you that it is strange how only few of the later jacks surface.
Both can be described as screw jacks, but the same can be said of any kind of jack that is passed off as correct from some unscrupolous seller.

This is the jack that is known as the "correct" WWII jeep jack. If you look closely on some of these jacks you will find small differences. Pay attention to the rivets and the top section
If you look at the top section of the jack on the left in this picture, you will see that the rivets match one of the "WWII" types in the prev. picture, and the top section match the other one
The black one to the right is the First Repro jack I ever saw. It came form a VERY good jeep friend "Down under"

This appears to be the correct 2 piece folding handle known as WO-A-12269, Frank.
By the way, anyone that has an extra they want to sell, please let me know.
So, we must assume the 41-J-66 screw jack reference is like saying a 723 wrench, the grease gun, or oil can... where several maufacturers are used? This bothers me as the bottle jack requires a handle while the rachet jack uses the lug wrench. Maybe it was a problem to keep the long two piece handle with the jeep and they decided to go back to the ratchet?
Keith, are you any help here?
