WW2 Cross Cut Saw and Cover

Post by 17thAirborne » Tue Jan 23, 2018 1:25 pm

I saw a cross cut saw cover for sale and remembered I had not found a cover for mine. Well I did, and realize the cover is a bit longer than the saw. I went back and looked at the images that Steve posted of the saw and cover for sale and it looks just the same with the saw shorter than the cover. Was there a more correct saw that went with the cover or a different cover for a shorter saw, or is this proper for a WW2 combat engineer display?

The engineer carpenter equipment squad set lists a 36" one man cross cut saw with supplemental handle like you have. The engineer pioneer equipment platoon set list a 5' crosscut saw 2 man with the long handles on both ends. The other saws listed are one man saws rip and crosscut. At least that is all in TM 5-225 rigging and engineer hand tools

Thanks much for that. I suspect this cover will be fine enough for my purpose
