2018 Tool Hunting
Picked this up yesterday; I'm thinking it's some sort of gage block, or perhaps a timing device for a machine gun. So far, no luck trying to find anything more about it, so I'd sure appreciate some insight if anyone has anything to offer. Picked up a bunch of other stuff, but this and a Herbrand H-1 tappet wrench are the only items which could be military. Not much doubt about this one, with the part number A-12-515069-T-19 USAAF!

Re: 2018 Tool Hunting
Looks like some sort of ordnance tool with that A prefix to the number. The shape suggests that sort of thing too. Apart from that it is a mystery. Being USAAF it can't be a timing tool for anything too big - 20mm automatic cannons were getting up there in size for aircraft. Though the USAAF did operate ground based AA weapons as well.
It looks too thick for the typical plate type wrenches used to open various instrumentation.
It doesn't match anything in my G61 Instrument Repair Kit. So sorry - not much useful information I'm afraid.

Re: 2018 Tool Hunting
Grabbed a number of things over the weekend, at a mix of estate sales and flea.
Highlights are:
- SnapOn G code 7/8" socket
- PLVMB C code 15/16" socket. Anybody know when this was made?
- WHALEBONE (Portage Tool Co. brand) cape chisel. At 7-3/4", it's a little long compared to the 7" standard.
- 3x Armstrong 21-505 1.5" Impact sockets, 3/4" dr
- Nicholson (partial) needle file set
- Camco TL-29 (has bakelite or plastic scales, so not WW2 vintage, but for $5 I wasn't passing it up)
- Phillips No. 2 stubby 1-1/8" blade
- 4.5" flat tip electrician screwdriver (a little short for GMTK)
- Unmarked (Irwin or Federal) 11" screwdriver. Grips held on w/tape, so will likely remove and attempt to replace the nail heads
Luke and Mudbox, when I get around to pulling off the grips of the 11" screwdriver, I'll post the forging info. They're currently held on with what looks like bent nail heads and tape.

Can you see that? A buddy has some he kept for collect/sell and he has the “unclaimed pile” for sale. I don’t have pics of those. I have not yet sorted and decided on disposition of mine. 11th Infantry Div (Ghost) I will keep, 63rd ID I will probably keep and the AAF Mechanic grade pin is spoken for.

Re: 2018 Tool Hunting
Attached pic has new (to me) tools, and prompted an update of my hard and soft copies of my GMTK component listing. It's finally missing a small enough list of things to be a reasonable facsimile of a box in use in the Army....guess there's no question of financial liability for the shortages
Luke, that's a NICE haul on the DIs.

Looks like a well spent weekend! Does the Bristol wrench have any markings on it?

Re: 2018 Tool Hunting
Thanks, Phil. There was more to it than this, but figured I'd leave out the non-WW2 stuff.
No markings on the Bristol wrench, even with a loupe. That was on the list I'd chalked up to being "unobanium," and yet there it is, and the price...well, it made it worth roll of the dice Now if I could do the same with a Ford brake bleeder wrench! I've had my GPW for over 20 years, but only been into the tools for the last year, so just maybe.

Re: 2018 Tool Hunting
1950s (?) era armorer's tool chest and some other "stuff" I picked up today:
- LDBE: Craftsman CL (or I?) in 25/32" x 3/4" (this is the only wrench which MIGHT be wartime)
- Tappet: Duro-Chrome 5/8 x 11/16
- Halfmoon: Indestro 769 9/16" x 5/8"
Over the weekend I'll post some detail shots of the tool chest into the relevant thread.

LOVE that chest! And it even has the often missing 'garage' door on the front.
Very nice find.
The Craftsman is likely CI.

Re: 2018 Tool Hunting
Amazed how long it's been since I posted anything to this thread...haven't been hunting tools as hard I was, in large part because the estate sale company I follow hasn't had "exciting" pictures of their sales for the last month or so. We'll see
I went to the 2018 MVPA Convention in Louisville, KY in June, and really enjoyed it. It was my first MVPA convention, and I enjoyed it. Look forward to going to the 2019 one in York, PA, which should be a shorter drive for me. I got there in the afternoon of Friday, for a show which started on Thursday - about halfway through the show. Next time, I'll get there sooner, I hope...
Below are the pics of what I picked up at the convention:
- Vlchek 1lb ball pein. Handle is stamped KING Second Growth.
- Gem 1pt oiler
- Brake bleeder wrenches
WO-A5130
41-W-1596-125
- Ratty post war tool pouch, but the price was RIGHT
- Books:
Automotive Instruction, Field Artillery School, 1941
TM 10-540 Automotive Lubrication, 1941
TM 10-570 The Internal Combustion Engine, 1941
TM 10-580 Automotive Electricity, 1941
TM 9-1827C Hydraulic Brakes (Wagner Lockheed) 1944
- Hub puller (repro)
- F-script hub bolts (repro)
