PLEWS-GEM Oiler-Hand Oil Can

Post by Rustman » Fri Jan 05, 2018 11:45 am

Found this at an antique shop today. I was hoping to find an oil can for my GMTK. And in a way I did. If it weren't for the 1970 era Defense Supply Agency (DSA) tag still intact I'd put this into my kit right now. As it is I'm $12 poorer and still don't have the proper oil can for my WW2 GMTK. 4" diameter, 3 7/8" spout, brass nut.

P.S. For the "Flimsy" check the Jerry Can section, I posted there about that.

I have a correct Noera oiler that is available, Matt. Noera is rich for a GMTK, as they have been a desirable and not commonly found choice for Ford GPW jeeps. But we can work something out. PM me if you're interested. If you'd rather find an oiler in the wild, I understand. Looks like you're having fun in the trying! :)

Thanks, but for now I'll stick to hunting in the wild. Eventually I'll succumb to GMTK madness and begin buying from members on here, then ebay... But for now I'll peck along seeing what I can find. On that note look for another thread on a Vlcheck wrench I found today.

Would a WWII Issue GEM w/PITTSBURG PA.stamp be correct?

A very credible, sane approach. I have been lucky enough to keep the latter to a minimum, maybe especially because the former is more challenging and more fun. And truth be told, and spoken not like a salesman, correct GEM or "EAGLE" oilers are not that hard to find. You will run into one eventually.

Matt,
Since your oiler is incorrect anyway, you could decorate it like the one I found at an estate sale today.

I have been lucky on GI issue Oilers, they are all 40's-50's Post WWII surplus that either came with Surplus WWII trucks or were mixed in with NOS surplus vehicle spare parts.

Greg,I thought that NOERA oilers, whose scarcity is well known, are the correct oilers for Dodges, while I ignored that they are the choice for GPWs.
Could you set me straight?
