SWAP: FAIRMOUNT/BILLINGS & SPENCER ADJUSTABLE WRENCH 11"

Post by Christophe Chevalet » Sun Oct 22, 2017 11:57 am

HELLO G'MEMBERS
FOLLOWING THE READING OF THE LLOYD WHITE BIBLE, I DISCOVER I MADE THE MISTAKE ON MY FACTORY TOOL KIT FOR MY SLAT GRILL (DECEMBER 1941).
I WOULD LIKE TO SWAP THIS NICE ORIGINAL FAIRMOUNT WRENCH ADJUSTABLE 11" FOR ONE BILLINGS & SPENCER 11" IN SAME CONDITION.
THANKS

Christophe....

Just a thought here. I have enclosed the only Willys 11" Adj. drawing I am aware of that was used in WWII. It seems to be the ORIGINAL drawing, with changes/additions notated with a series of letters (A, B. C, etc.) .

However....the notation that the "Billings & Spenser or equal" manufacturer on it does not have a letter indicating it was ADDED to the drawing at any time which seems to me to state that this was part of the original drawing and therefore even for the Slat Grill, the B&S or "equal" would be acceptable options for a factory Willys tool kit.

That would mean some investigating into what the "equal" options would be but I certainly would think that the Fairmount you already have might fit the bill perfectly unless you want a B&S for other reasons.

I don't have Lloyd's books so I have no idea why they favor the B&S over those other "equal" options as noted on the original drawing. Can you post the reference for us that states that a Slat Grill MUST have a B&S over the option as stated on the drawing?
