Roger, Longer than I had hoped! I tried to set it up the first time last weekend but after setting up 3 sets on a day with a 10% chance of rain a thunderstorm came through. So not only did I not get to finish I had to dry off all the tools that had a light mist on them. Wednesday afternoon went better. Since I had already placed them once it went faster but still took about 4 1/2 hours. I will be posting some more pictures with more detailed close ups of the individual tools soon.

This actually turned out to be a key socket, Phil. It was missing from Roger's set. It was in the catalog, but it's good to see one 'in the steel', so to speak, and with a "G" code no less. That shows that it is possible to satisfy the 1944 RAPD with a Duro-Chrome 45xx set. Still missing a few "DI" sockets on that score, believe it or not.

That's good to hear Greg. I still have some DI SETS to go through that may be helpful.

Ha! I don't know about all that Dave but thanks. You have found some pretty awesome stuff yourself. For me, finding the missing or hard to find pieces is the fun part.

An incredible piece of work Phil that I can't ever see being repeated but will serve as a reference to all the GMTK brigade.

Thanks Cliff. Speaking of museums Tim and I are getting very close to sending a GMTK for him to display in the museum he is helping build and find items to display.

Thanks Maddawg. Here are the 4 sets in black and white. For those of you who didn't recognize it the third set is the Wynmkr set which includes a number of original pieces but also those which I used to complete the set. The pieces with white tags indicate pieces original to the set.

Phil, I have 41-H-1509 as the FSN for my Walden 3150 1/4in ratchet. I see you have this number for the "nut driver" which is listed as "Spin-Type Handle 41-H-1509" in the 1944 from Greg.U.S.Navy Class 41 Catalog. Perhaps I need to correct my posting. I notice that you have a query in your listings for the ratchet.

Cliff,

41-H-1509 is the FSN for the 1/4-inch drive handle that most guys here seem to call a driver. I grew up calling it a spinner. As you noted, the March 1944 Class 41 lists it as a "Spin-Type Handle," and so does the 1945 ORD 5 SNL J-4 and the 1945 ORD 6 SNL G-27: "HANDLE, socket wrench, spin-type." And of course, Walden incorporated the name in its branding (SPIN-TITE).

Believe it or not, we don't know what the FSN for the 1/4-inch drive ratchet is. The midget set in the late war GMTK did not have a ratchet, only a spinner and a hinged-handle, so the ratchet wasn't listed in the April or July 1945 ORD 6 SNL G-27. The 1/4-inch drive ratchet is something the Ordnance Dept eliminated across the board in late 1944, I suspect, because it is not included in the HANDLE section of the March 1945 ORD 5 SNL J-4 with the ratchets ("HANDLE, socket wrench, ratchet, reversible") for all the other drive sizes (3/8, 1/2, 3/4, and 1), and none of the other 1/4-inch drive sockets sets (there are four total: Blackhawk, part of Master Wrench Set 100w; Duro; Bonney; and our TAC ES spec set) include a ratchet either. On top of that, there is a 9/32-inch drive midget set still listed, with a Williams spec, and that doesn't have a ratchet either. I'm thinking they probably failed too often in the midget sizes.

This is indicated in column one in my charts on the midget set on page 2 of the Retro thread: viewtopic.php?p=1515176#p1515176

We need the 29 April 1943 version of the ORD 5 SNL J-4.

Thanks Greg for setting me straight on the 1/4" ratchet. I was amazed to find it here in the UK on ebate as I believe it to be a rare item. As well as the special name for their spinner, Stevens Walden used the trade mark "Migit" to describe their midget 1/4" set as you are probably aware.

Interesting choice to put the 41-W-900 set in the '42 kit. I think I get your reasoning though, and that is a really nice set.
Really came here to say that I'm still jealous of that P&C stubby driver!

Great pics!
