Greg,

Aaahhh that makes sense. I wasn't thinking of the tire pump. That is good to hear. Thank you on the answer WRT to the grease gun adapter. I am not sure about which gun we have. I will check into it.

I wasn't planning on driving around with it still in cosmoline. I was just curious and would have just displayed the jeep with it like that if need be. Like you said that would make a real mess. We probably will just clean it off. We are restoring the jeep so it would fit that window because we want to bring it to a convention for judging one day. But it wont stay that way. We want to use it so we will still get all the other equipment issued such as ax, shovel, etc. and display the jeep either way. Thank you for the length of the spout. Will have to check that.

Definitely let me know if your ever here in PAX River. I work on base at the test squadron VX-1.

Ha. Should've figured. My duty station is APG, but I spend most of my time at a small Army test activity at Lakehurst, NJ. Last time I was at Pax was more than a few years ago. Some short-lived joint R&D thing. But you never know. Funny thing is, I was just down in that area a couple years ago buying a BSA WDM20.

Yea there is no other reason to live down here other then if you work at PAX. APG is not to far from here. I head up that area every year for the Aberdeen meet. I drive up to Long Island all the time to see family and hate the drive! Surprised you found something like that down here. That is a cool find.

The guy was a nut! Retired from Pax long time ago. Total hermit. To get to his house, which backed up on the river (I guess the St Mary's?), we went from primary, to secondary, to tertiary road, then a dirt road, then a double track made by the wheels of his trucks going in and out of his property, through thick pines. We were on that for at least a mile before seeing any signs of a dwelling. The place was like an abandoned depot with trucks and other equipment from several countries and eras out in the open or under tarps all over the place. My buddy and I looked at each other like, "I guess we should've been packing." When we stopped he came out of a garage wearing woolen Russian army dungarees with suspenders. We loaded the bike into the bed of our truck with a hoist on the back of his CCKW - and as we worked he never did stop the entire time dropping little pithy sayings that made it obvious he was off the grid in every sense of the word - physically, politically, and mentally! Anyway, there was no other way into his place except the river. At the end of a staircase to get down to water level was his landing, with a PBR tied up to it! I couldn't help but think of this strategically as his getaway plan for when the IRS or ATF or some other three-letter agency showed up! I'll end with this - when I asked if I could take some pictures he said, "That's not a good idea."

Came across these Fairmount pliers today. I have a pair of CEETEE pliers that would be correct for my toolkit but I wanted to stick with Fairmount as much as possible. They are 6.5" long and from what I have read these look to match the pair from the original 45MB toolkit that was found. I got them for such a low price that even if they are not quite right they were still worth it. Thoughts?

Nice find!

Are those dimples/use marks on each handle, close to where they cross, before the bow? Or forge marks? If forge marks, what do they say? One looks like it might be a "5" and the other a "6".

They look to be forge marks. The side with Fairmount is a 5 as you said. The other side looks like a 6.

Greg,

If you are interested... my Fairmounts which look just like TJ's have a forged 4 where the 5 is on his pliers. I'll have another look at mine, see what is forged on the other handle and report back.

Thanks,
Henry

Since my last post I have had a few good months WRT my toolkit collection. I have acquired a A-375 screwdriver (Tobrin #6) , A-12269 Jack Handle, A-377 11" Auto Wrench (Billings & Spencer), A-616 fire extingusher (Fyr-Fyter), A-1100 drain plug wrench (reproduction), got a chance to finally open the Stewart-Warner #6593 grease gun my father had, and completed my Fairmount round wrench set. Additionally I was very lucky to acquire a pair of Nixdorf-Krein tire chains still in the original coating. The pair were discussed previous on this thread here viewtopic.php?t=283581. Thank you to everyone who has helped.

I made it a priority before continuing my search to purchase the 5th Volume of the Lloyd Whites books(awesome work by Greg and Fred on the toolkit section) and to continued to read threads on this forum. Boy were those some interesting conversations  I wanted to avoid waste money on incorrect tools. Now the reproduction drain plug wrench is marked WO-A-1100 vice A-1100. That just comes down to availablity at this time. I only point this out as it deviates from the research that has been done. I know there are opposing views so please dont rehash old threads! Also my Fairmount wrench set is round vice the Pear shaped which seem to be more desirable. I got an excellent deal on three of the five wrenches in one deal so that drove me in that direction.

I am missing the A-5130 bleeder wrench, A-11765 grease gun adaptor( Stewart-Warner #6344), and the A-12268 Ajax #2181 jack. I missed out on a jack by 15 minutes last year. Still bugs me  I will most likely go with a reproduction bleeder wrench until I am lucky! If anyone has one of these items for sale PLEASE let me know! Here are some pictures of the new items as well as the entire kit.

TJ,
Thanks for sharing updated photos of your set. It looks great and I love the overall patina. I really enjoy seeing what other guys come up with. I wouldn't lose any sleep over the round vs sharp Fairmounts. There is absolutely no evidence that the sharps are or should be more desirable. Yes, they were in the Greg K kit but there were a whole lot more rounds in the repacks than sharps. To me they are equally desirable. Good luck finding the remaining pieces. I'll keep an eye out and see if I can help locate them.

I know you don't want to dwell on a near-miss, TJ, but how the heck did you snag the A-12269 jack handle, yet miss the A-12268 jack? I am guessing they were each in separate times and places, one without the other, but even that is strange!

You've done an amazing job in a short time to put this together. Congratulations are definitely in order for your approach, your thoughtfulness, and your persistence.

Check your PMs.

Phil,

Thank you for selling me the 731-A and the Tobrin driver. I only pointed that out as I know there have been discussions about the round vs sharps and which might be factory correct. Same goes for the drain plug wrench. I did forget to mention the fully fluted bristol wrench that I have vs partially fluted wrench and what you told me about the existance of an ink stamped Tobrin. I wanted to be up front about that so anyone who comes across this thread would understand there are still open discussions, evidence to be found, and some research to be done on some items. I didnt want them to walk away with thinking this was 100% without a shadow of doubt a factory correct tool kit. Thank you for the help!

Greg,

I dont recall if I got the handle from a vendor or private sale. I do remeber that it was not being sold as a A-12269 handle for an MB. Maybe it was being sold as an M38 or M38A1 handle. Again I cant recall. Either way there was no jack with it :x The jack was being sold by Farrell Fox on here and the G503 FB page. When I saw the FB post I immeditally responded but I was too late. Now that I think of it it might have been less then 15 minutes! Great now I am even more frustrated  Thank you for the kind words!
