Hi Luca. As far as I know, there is no hard evidence on the changeover from the Bakelite handle to the steel loop handle. No engineering drawing for A-213 has ever been found, and none of the SNL's, TM-10's, QMC or TAC ES 422 specs, or any other period Willys or government documentation that I know of specifies either type of handle for the A-213. The source of the "doubt" about the Bakelite handle comes from the RAPD figures found on page 187 (in the Vehicular tools section) and on page 221 (in the Maintenance tools section) of the SNL G503, which show an Alemite 5585 with a steel loop handle. But some guys tend to forget that the SNL G503 was published in January 1944 (ironically, one month after the push-type grease gun was replaced by the lever-action A-12508 grease gun)! The latest RAPD figure that I am aware of showing a Bakelite handle on an Alemite 5585 grease gun is in a February 1942 Dodge WC21 manual, but who knows how long into 1942 they were continued? And 1943 is not out of the question as far as I am concerned. For these reasons, Fred and I chose the words "early" (Bakelite) and "late" (steel loop) in White, Vol 5, Chapter 40.
To be more precise than the clumsy parenthetical date range in my post above, our chosen terms probably more safely translate into something like this sequence - Bakelite (1941) Bakelite or steel loop (1942), steel loop (1943), and then of course lever type (1944-1945).

Had you spent a little time on jeepdraw, you would have spared 15 bucks.GI. wrote:I just bought this for $15.00, it's supposed to be a new WW-2 jeep alemite 6570 grease gun with paper's, does it look right to you guy's ?
sorry about the large pic,s....not good at sizing them.
Would this be correct for a MB and a GPW ?

There is only one kind of correct push type grease gun.
If you are still in the learning stage, be careful when spending even small amounts of money. Ending up with a load of cheap but uncorrect tools is way too easy if you do not do your homework first. On this forum you will find almost all that it is necessary to know.
Here is how a very decent toolkit should look like:

43 Willys MB-T # 25417 4-43
Way too many WWII military tools, hopefully thinning down, and way too many posts...

BTW jeepdraw is a good source of information, lots of people find it useful, if not you.

Re: new Alemite grease gun
lucakiki,
Thank's for the pic. of what a correct tool kit for a WW-2 jeep should look like, I should have known better as a few years ago I put together a correct one for "my then" 31 ford "A" model, I had about $400 in it.
You seem to be the GURU here on WW-2 jeep tool's, thank's for your info. on them.
BTW....I think $15.00 is very cheap for an education on WW-2 jeep tool's , .

Sergeant Major, it takes a true man to go back and amend statements made out of haste. Good on you. May not be considered 'correct', but your grease gun is a great and useful piece, and you got it at a bargain!
Look forward to seeing more posts from you.

Re: new Alemite grease gun
Correct Alemite push type grease guns can be purchased for as little as thirty bucks...
I am sorry that the picture on the original post has been removed, since it could have been useful for newbies.

I do not think I am a Guru, but I sure master the art of blowing money on tools:that way I learned to tell apart correct tools from ballast. You seem to be the GURU here on WW-2 jeep tools.

Re: Alemite grease gun
Any "bakelite" handled grease gun can be converted into a loop handled one, if so wished, as long as one finds a suitable donor.
By suitable I mean a grease gun with badly corroded body, wrong fittings, but correct and straight loop handle. The handle is hardly ever in bad condition.
