Re: AM August 1943 Tool Sets and How they Grew
Oh my! Roger, you're the MAN! Those better images are fantastic!
As you say, the 1/4" drive set is obviously <SK> and it looks like it does not contain the nut spinner.
It looks to me like the taper on top of the large 1/2" drive sockets could make them either <SK> or D-I
The long extension (10") looks like <SK> as well with the 2 lines of banding around the base.
Most shocking to me are:
The set of drag links are unmistakably New Britain!
The ignition wrench set is undeniably Bonney! You can make out the tell tale red/black checker pattern in the upper left of the leatherette.
Again, awesome images. Thanks for sharing!

Edit to add some images:
New Britain DLBs
Bonney Ignition Set

Re: AM August 1943 Tool Sets and How they Grew
Thanks Roger for posting these, its great to have them with much better definition. Looks like I was wrong in my previous attempted identification, but the was before S-K sockets were considered (although I used two 1/2" drive S-K sockets to recreate the image). Just makes one realise how much "The knowledge" has moved on from 2014.
P.S. Hadn't noticed the "8in flat nosed side cutting pliers" before in the text. I wonder if this is an error?

Roger,
These shots are a huge improvement over what we've seen before. I also like that the entire article is included. Other than maybe a couple of extra sockets, I think I'm in the ballpark with my S-K 1/4" set.

Yes and no. The middle one looks chrome. And, the long oval pad in the center looks <SK> to me.Silly's MB wrote:...any ideas on the manufacturers of the 2 long 45* dbe's ?
The more I look at the largest DBE, the more it looks like it's a single offset... Perhaps that's just my eyes playing tricks on me with the shiny wrench right next to it. Regardless, it looks like it has raised letters to it reminiscent of the AMCO or TAC wrenches or perhaps Bonney. With all the other Bonney and <SK> pieces shown, it wouldn't surprise me.
Just my $0.02.

Re: AM August 1943 Tool Sets and How they Grew
I was lucky enough to obtain an original copy of this issue today. And while the article Roger posted is awesome there are some other things worth looking at in this issue that I thought I'd share. I know you guys love trying to identify tool brands from vintage photos so here's some to look at over the weekend.

Thanks for the link Roger! I meant to follow it the other day but didn't get around to it so I'm glad you reminded me. That is an awesome collection of AM magazines. The front and back covers of those may be the best part.
