Not the best pic, but but the engraving on the putty knife reads
WINCHESTER
Trade Mark
Made in U.S.A.
2364 (I think)

I have no basis, but I've always assumed that the WINCHESTER branded tools were 1> PRE-WWII and 2> not associated with weapons cleaning or manufacture at the Winchester plant, and only associated by the brand recognition. I seem to recall WINCHESTER was sold by Western Auto long before my time, and I kind of made this association that perhaps WA sold Winchester branded tools along side the arms?

Luke, I really don't have any idea on the vintage. This putty knife was so covered in crud when I bought it, all I could make out was a U.S.A. on the blade. I've made it a habit to pick up any marked putty knives that I find, so... this one followed me home. I believe the handle is made of cocobolo wood.

Nice pickups. In case you're interested, that BB pad stamped wrench just happens to be missing from the Barcalo shrine. I'm trying to catch up with Tin Medic on those.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Now to find the elusive 25 equivalent. They seem to be kind of scarce but one will probably show up sometime. Thanks!

Managed to find some nice wartime tools over the weekend.
Large SnapOn socket rail
Husky 1/2" drive breaker
Sockets, Blackhawk and a couple of snap on
3/8" drive Walden ratchet
t-bar handle
Parts brush, marked #8 special. Round with 4 pins, so, not correct, but convincing
Bonney (made in USA) water pump pliers
Vlchek grind off short DBE in 3/4" x 5/8"
Armstrong Special 721 DOE
Plomb combo
(X) DOE (chrome)
Some Barcalo combos with remnants of cosmoline
empty 1/4" drive socket box. could be New Britain or Husky or None Better, same make as Plomb as well
big @ss drift. 1" dia x 11" l
U.S.A.F. (Chicago Lock) padlock and key.

Image

And I have no idea how to date this lantern, but the most recent patent on the bottom is 1934, so it could be good for wartime, right?
Anyway, with the U.S. martial mark, It's a good bet for military service!

I've circled 2 stamps. What do they read? Also, if you can tell, what model the lantern is? These off-center stamps date it. That logo is the proper logo for the WWII era lamps.

Thanks Luke! Stamps are '3' and '11'. A bit of additional research, and a closer look at those stamps lead me to a date of November '43. So, Yay! Not a bad purchase after all.

I would tend to agree on your "NOV 43" assessment. Good grab!

My father told me stories of these pressure lamps in use in Port Moresby (New Guinea) whilst camped well away from the front. He said that they were the cause of numerous tent fires due to the use of petrol (gasoline) instead of kerosene as fuel and there were a number explosions that resulted in serious burns for those around. So be careful using it.

Thanks Dave. No worries there. I just plan on cleaning it up and making it useable. But I don't plan on using it. :D
Though, I bet it would look great hanging off someone's K-38...

Here's a pic of the Bonney water pump pliers I found last weekend. 8)

Those lanterns are designed for white gas, not gasoline or kerosene. The military had a case which contained two lanterns and between them a gallon can for fuel. So I guess you are 1/4 of the way complete with your lamp!

I found some cleaning and disassembly instructions here: https://www.oldcolemanparts.com/resourc ... lant_b.php.

I haven't tried to use them, my lamps hang from the ceiling in the garage. They don't need to work to look pretty, but mine are complete and seemingly functional. Someday if I need light, I may try one.
