Luke,
I have no idea why they like them or what exactly they like to use them for but every time I ask a flea market "knife guy" if he has any electricians knives they tell me they don't last long because the wood carvers buy them up.

I found this Kabar US ARMY marked knife on eBay recently. It will replace the knife with the replacement bail in my keeper set.

Don, congrats! That knife is EXCELLENT!

Luke & Phil, my speculation about why they're popular is that the steel is relatively soft, so it's easy to sharpen them. Not sure how well they hold an edge, but ease of sharpening goes a long way, for guys who use them regularly.
