WELDERS TOOL-SET
For those of you interested in other WW2 tool sets, I have put together my version of the Welders' tool set. It was an easy decision for me as I already had quite a few of the items in my garage. One shouldn't draw any conclusions about my welding skills just because I have this set. Here are the details.

Re: WELDERS TOOL-SET
Don,
That is a very nice set. Well thought out and put together. We all think of this style tool box for the GMTK but it had many other uses. There are a number of other sets from blacksmiths' to painters' that utilized this style box. The only thing I hate is that I didn't beat you to it!

Re: WELDERS TOOL-SET
Phil,
Thanks for your comments on the Welders set. It had some different tools such as the larger files and larger handles to match. When I picked up the striker at the estate sale it didn't work because the flint was gone. I checked my oxyacetylene set and there was a little box of flints for my missing striker that fit perfectly. I now know more about C-clamps than I used to, as well. I had bought a new striker right before finding the old one at the estate sale.

Re: WELDERS TOOL-SET
Thanks, Luca. I appreciate that. It was a fun set to put together and much easier and less costly than a GMTK. I was lucky to find the folding rule (41-R-2750) on the auction site. I received an RA PD image from a fellow Gee member showing the exact same rule, right down to the brand and part number.

Amen. Great idea, and great execution, Don! (Maybe you have started a trend. The other smaller specialty kits look far less daunting in size, number, chances of finding, and cost than the 2nd and 3rd echelon unit kits!)d42jeep wrote:It was a fun set to put together and much easier and less costly than a GMTK.

That's my Rule !
Nice set, I have a bodywork set under way which needs that rule as well which is why I made the offer on it Don. Unfortunately with postage it was going to be far too much.

Re: WELDERS TOOL-SET
Don,
Very nice set. Congratulations on a job well done. Also, thank you for posting the specs and RA PD photo from the SNL N-19. Those will be very helpful for anyone trying to put one of these together too. Which is what I'm probably going to do since I cant help myself from collecting tools and because as was already pointed out this set seems easier to complete (at least as far as total number of tools required) than the GMTK and/or the second echelon set that I am trying to put together.
Thanks again,
Henry

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments. They are much appreciated. If anyone runs across one of these General folding steel rules, please be sure to let Roger (Silly's MB) know.

Re: WELDERS TOOL-SET
Thanks for posting those images, Henry.
Are you able to tell any of the brands from the tool images? It looks like you may be able to make out the brand on those 10" slip joints...
Also, finally, a good period pic of a Trimo 14" pipe wrench! I have this wrench with 2 different handle styles. Nice to know which is correct.

Re: WELDERS TOOL-SET
Jason,
My pleasure. Yes very good news about the Trimo pipe wrench. I did try to see if there was a manufacturer printed in the 10" slip joints and even with my 40x jeweler's loop (which provides enough magnification to show the individual black pixels of the offset dot printing) I just could not make out a name (just wasn't there). By the way, the Trimo shows perfectly under 40x magnification.
Finally it is an original paper bound TM but if any of you guys like the photos I attached to this thread but want larger or clearer versions of those photos just PM me with your e-mail address and I'll forward them full size. Only limitation will be what your e-mail provider allows for file size of an attachment but if necessary and if you are up for it I will send them over several e-mails if necessary.
Bottom line for me is... We are all in this together so any information sharing amongst us only serves to help each of us.
Thanks,
Henry

Re: WELDERS TOOL-SET
I found a wire brush at an estate sale recently that I like better than the one I had in the Welders set. It looks more like the one Henry posted above and I think I saw the same brand on one in a RA PD image.
