You did. RAPD 96588. It's in the Welder's Tool-Set in both the April and July 1945 ORD 6 SNL G-27. It is clearly marked Osborn Mfg Co.
I've been spending some time examining the RAPD's. Link: viewtopic.php?p=1585243#p1585243

Here is another Armstrong 404 (41-C-1730) 4" medium service clamp that my daughter donated to my Welders set. Now I have brand matching 4" clamps.

Hi all,
I have lurked about this thread several times, but it is time to contribute.

As part of a Diamond T 969 re-build (and later, an M1A1 re-build), I'd like to assemble the welders kit. Below is the information I have on this set. Expert help and tool offers would be much appreciated.

I have Harris-Calorific regulators, hand piece, cutting attachment, one cutting tip, the spanner (all from epay, ouch!) and a generic toolbox (thanks Jason!). I'll use modern bottles (originals are non-existent here) and hoses. Yes, I want the set to be operational. I have already used the oxy regulator successfully.

By the look of some of the pictures in this thread, the different sets aren't that different. Who can help me with
tools that may find a good home in this truck?

Thanks,
Have a nice day.

Got any extra stuff Don?

My welder’s set still consists of a box and a C-clamp. I’m real speedy at this!

Luke,
I'm only just ahead of you!

I unexpectedly found this, . . in Australia!! Yeah! Only moderately expensive shipping.
It seems to be the correct tool, but not in as crisp condition as seen up-thread.

This reads No.753.

Don, I hope you don't mind me contaminating your great Welders Set topic, but recently I was helping to clear out my son-in-law's family home & garage and came across these two clamps that appear to fit the specification for: " 41-C-1732 Clamp C - med. service, capacity 6in. x2". See ORD6 SNL G-27 Section 2 July 1945: Tool Set 2nd Echelon Set No:2. They are made from "malleable iron" not drop-forged as in your examples. According to my brief searches, "B & C" or Brink & Cotton Manufacturing Co of Bridgeport Connecticut, existed in various guises between c1920 to about 1966. The garage had not been cleared out for a very long time and was full of old rusty goodies from previous generations. How these got there is a mystery. Perhaps I should post this on the "higher echelon tools" topic.

Don,
Nice set, simple and to the point. I am building a radiator/body tool kit and also need the 30 inch general ruler. These must have been popular for tool kits back then. Just not so today. Matt

Thanks, Matt. Here is another choice besides the General 753. It's a Starrett No460 41-R-2750 Rule, blacksmiths', steel, folding, length 36", 3 folds. All of the other found examples have been from General. I had an ongoing search on eBay and when one popped up on a buy it now, I did!

Thanks Don, I will try the 36 and keep a search on the 30 inch like you on ebay. Im neck deep into my WLA tool kit which is busting my wallet but would find some scoots if one of these poped up. Matt

I scrolled across this comment. I guess we are lucky. I volunteer for the Artillery Museum, and in their exhibit construction shop, we are currently using a Linde Air company bottle which has a camouflaged swastika as part of the original acceptance markings and a mid-1941 Date. They are out there.... How it came to USA....no clue.

I recently stumbled upon a 1946 oxy bottle, closer to the era.
Also recently tried a modern acetylene bottle in my DT969 rack, diameter is good, but it is about 4" short to be a secure fit. I may weld an adaptation on the rack to allow use of modern bottles.

Some time ago, I came across an 'E' sized oxy bottle, dated . . . . 1923 !!!!!! In a remote rubbish dump!

Sam.
How is a post-war bottle (46) closer to “the era” then a genuine Nazi tank made during the war (albeit before US entry)?

Opps, how clumsy of me.

Not what I meant at all, sorry.

'Closer to the era' compared to what I have available to me at this time.

Of course, a period manufactured Nazi bottle is un-beatable! A true gem, deserving pride of place in any collection.

Any chance of a picture?

Speaking of General, if anyone is wondering, they ARE a verified supplier. I just added them to the A List. Full name during WWII was General Hardware Mfg Corp., located in New York, NY. They had a $69K contract with the US Ordnance Dept for "Tools" awarded 12/42.
