Re: A Cornucopia of Catalogs
Todd has now made some of Steve's catalogs available on his site. They all make for interesting reading but my favorite is the 1940 Barcalo catalog.

Re: A Cornucopia of Catalogs
I agree, the 1940 Barcalo is interesting, Don. I especially like their term ("knife handle"!) for a common heavy duty integral (or, in H.D. Smith and street terminology, "perfect") handle type screwdriver! That's a first heard/seen for me. And it's a good baseline and arc of time we have now from the 1940 catalog to the 1941 Price List to the 1943 Price List. But I was much more excited to see us get a year closer to wartime with the 1940 Duro catalog (previously having access only to the 1935 and 1939 editions), and most excited to see the 1940 Walden, since we did not have any Walden catalogs to consult previously.
Two of the many catalogs I am most eager to see from Steve's collection are the wartime OTC and the wartime New Britain. I've only seen bits (e.g., OTC long pattern DBEs on the 'Longshanks' thread) and pieces (e.g., New Britain NS40 ratchet, by research request). Then again, he has so many, I am likely forgetting the other ones I have been waiting with baited breath for!
Todd,
Thanks for your dedication and hard work.

No problem Gents. I will tell you that a little research is in order to verify that NB cat is actually 1940. I am apprehensive at this point but will say I believe it to be pre 1948. I'll be researching / uploading more this afternoon.Wingnutt wrote:I agree, the 1940 Barcalo is interesting, Don. Re: A Cornucopia of Catalogs
Interesting. I'll be eager to help, if I can, once I see the catalog. Heck, post it as TBD for now. The challenge with research to determine the date of an undated catalog is when the research to determine the dates of the other data points is also less than definitive. Of course, it also makes the discussions fun!twertsy wrote:I will tell you that a little research is in order to verify that NB cat is actually 1940. The NB catalog actually has a print date of Nov 40.

Re: A Cornucopia of Catalogs
Thanks for the clarification, Steve. I assumed since Todd was saying it needed to be verified that it was undated.
Todd,
What makes you doubt the veracity of a date printed on the document itself?

Wingnutt,
Even though I may be Barcalo-centric, I have spent some time reviewing the Duro and Walden catalogs as well. Here are a couple of images that Gee members might find interesting.

Re: A Cornucopia of Catalogs
Ok, first point of reference found on my first search. Document published in 1943, with an advert for Catalog 56M........still searching EDIT: the same advertisement shows up in the same publication dated 1946. I think it's safe to say this is a "war years" catalog, possibly first published in 1940 although I cannot find a reference for this one that early.Wingnutt wrote:Interesting. Re: A Cornucopia of Catalogs
Todd, without seeing it I believe the date "11.40" is printed on the back cover.

Is it 56-M, Steve? If so, Alloy Artifacts has the same catalog in their resource table, with a 1940 publication date. Can't wait to see it!Tin Medic wrote:Todd, without seeing it I believe the date "11.40" is printed on the back cover.

I have no clue. I selected recommended settings and hit go! Can't be anything I did, must be the scanner.
