I'm slapping myself right now, asking you these questions.... I forgot that I had created a whole spreadsheet inventory for Randy's kit, developed from photographs he had sent me, that he used in his sale thread! This will help distinguish the original pieces...

Link: viewtopic.php?p=1358455#p1358455

I started collecting UNBRAKO set screw wrenches based on this kit. They were a brand name of Standard Pressed Steel, which is on the "A" (verified!) list!

As a reminder - Johnson is a Heller brand. Acquired well before the war and continued to be used in 1950's catalogs.

Thanks Greg! You could have saved me a lot of time taking pictures!
Very helpful and nicely laid out pics and spread sheet.
Still I was able to ID some brands that Randy had not.
Phil

Edit: or maybe not. How did he or you see the lufkin on that ruler??

I don't recall whether Randy or I made the Lufkin ID. I remember being intrigued by the question of its length. This was all well before I had the CPA War Supply Contracts list or the ORD 5, so we didn't know at that time where we stood on some of the brands.

I had researched "SIRGAGE" on the punch, so your "3TRGAGE" reading of that mark may open some other avenues.

I appreciate how you've completed the kit with an approach that honors and keeps the flavor of its original contents intact. A subtle curator's touch.

The wynmkr kit had a number of ww2 vintage pieces including some we don't ordinarily associate with the GMTK. There were also pieces added by post ww2 owners. Many of the pieces I have added to this "restored" set have trickled down from my keeper set as I have found "better" pieces. Here is the near complete set displayed in a RA PD style.

The 32 oz hammer is a Fairmount and the 4oz a Heller. The 8" adj wrench was added to compliment the larger adjustable and also is '42 dated. I would like to add a branded pry bar at some point.

I suspect based on the contents of the wynmkr kit and human nature that extras and duplicates ended up in these sets. I have already posted the duplicates and here are some of the extras. Based on Randy's original pictures I believe the set had a file cleaner and a WOA SPW in addition to the original GG adaptor. I have replaced the file cleaner and SPW and added what I think may have been common extras added by individual mechanics.

Doc, I think (and may add to mine) a zippo would fit in spot on. When you find your second WWII or immediate prior, I'll buy it!

I haven't done much to this set since my last post but I recently was able to complete a set of circle DC small DBE wrenches. The largest is relatively easy to source and I have a crate of them if anyone needs one. The middle size is a little harder to source but the smallest is really hard to find.

Hi Phil
Nice set of circle DC small DBE wrenches
I have been looking for the two small wrenches myself.
Thanks

Thanks Dave. I've got a buddy looking for one but if I happen to find one after that it's all yours.
