Spring has Sprung Tools

Post by Wingnutt » Sat Mar 28, 2015 6:31 am

Now that spring has arrived (although it's still only 34F today!), I need a new thread for my flea market finds!

Image

Top to bottom:

- Utica 21-6 Round-Nose pliers (early 41-P-1904)

- Another SKROO-ZON file handle

- Another LS Starrett Steel Rule.. this one is maked "No. 4 GRAD.", which is a variation I have not seen before. Confirms the No. 4 spec referring to the graduations.

- Disston round 8” bastard file, still inside a Disston No. 2 (41-H-1117) file handle!

- Lenox file cleaner – this is the first one I have found with the wire card and the brush. The wires are held in with a tacked on leather pad, like the vintage Nicholsons, unlike the newer cleaners, but I am not sure of the vintage, and Lenox has not been verified as an ORD wartime supplier as far as I know.

- Oval Sash Brush has no brand, but the ferrule is marked “100% BRISTLE VULCANIZED WITH RUBBER”

- WW2 “U.S.” marked utility knife (Not a GMTK tool, but these are great knives - carbon steel blades, aluminum handle.)

- Perfect examples of the GMTK hacksaw blades, which specified hard (not flexible), 12” L, 1/2” wide, and 24 teeth per inch. These have the vintage SIMONDS brand marking and I will be looking to see if they're included in the 1942 SIMONDS catalog. Marked No. 20-1224, 12” 24T HARD.

- Last but not least, a FairmounT round 723

Nice sash brush Greg. It looks a good length about 10" which is roughly what I work out the images show. Most of the ones I find are about 8".
Limited access.

I usually only include rare or unusual or interesting items, but here you go, mud.

Unfortunately, the brand is not the strongest, but the ISN and size marks are deep and crisp.

Wait until you see the one in my keeper set. I've been keeping it under wraps.

I have to post the 1939 Fed Specs. Very interesting.

Greg,

That's a Mess Kit Knife... but "utility" does sound a bit more classy. :D

My Starrett rule is also marked No.4 GRAD. I also have a Union rule marked No.4 Though, neither one is in the best of shape.

I missed the 'early bird' on Friday. Busy yesterday. Meager pickings today...

Quality over quantity. I've been hunting for more Cornwell stuff since you posted your recent findings.
But seriously. What's the deal with the box that's in the frame with the big old #2 on the side??

I've been running into more and more Cornwell lately. Maybe we should team up on it. Just put it aside and see how much we could come up with between us after a year.

Oh yeah, that. I almost forgot I found that, too.

Here is a wider shot, but the tools were too small to see in this picture.

Image

Just some old box. The “2” looks as if it was hand-painted with a stencil brush. It’s banged up a little and has a well-used vintage patina but there’s not a spot of rust on it. It’s marked “HAM. MET. PRODS.” (Ham misspelled ‘Meat’ Products? Mess hall?) and it also has some sort of 41-B- number on it.

Here are some additional photos, some in the sun, and some in the shade, maybe you guys could help me figure it out… :P

I can't make out the markings very well. If you mail it to me it might help. Since 'Meat' is mis-spelled it probably has very little value.

Hilarious!
Whoa! that is a GREAT find!
Super green over that one!
The condition looks amazing!
Take it to the paint counter and see if they can match the paint color for me! There's a KOI paint store by me that will mix the color and put it into a spray can. Runs about $15 a can.

Greg,
Those boxes are so common around here I usually pass them over. Are they worth anything??
A great find and another box that you need to fill!

I'm thinking that since I don't have a box yet and yours seems to be flawed anyways, you should just send it to me.
