Re: My Jeep & GMTK sets - They'll never really be finished!
Just when I think I've got my sets wrapped up, mrbill sends me a really nice cad plated 1-1/16 D-I socket to upgrade my existing one. Thanks, Bill! Phil Jones also sent a NOS D-I drag link bit for the MVMTS that has a nice dark finish. I prefer these bits that have matching knurling to the D-I sockets and now have them in both sets. Thanks to Phil, as well!

I'm most envious of the U.S.A. marked Crescent needle nose! Gotta find me a pair of those.

It seems that something always comes along that is an improvement to the existing example. I picked up a pair of 8" Barcalo pliers off of eBay that were a closer match to my 6" pliers. I also took a couple more pictures of the USA marked 41-P-1991 Crescent longnoses.

I really like that hand-carved file handle. A display of such artistic field mods could be really interesting.

Don- thanks for the visual identification of all of your goodies! But what a kick in the nutz to not only see how far I have to go, but how ugly my examples are .
I reckon it's the journey, and not the destination! I'll never remember exactly what items I bought at the flea market, but I can tell you that my 13yr old son was there with me, and he "played it cool" when haggling with the seller! We get home from the market, lay out our bounty, and admire how cool, collected, and calm we were the entire time. Not really knowing what we have until we open up the Tools section of the Gee

Re: My Jeep & GMTK sets - They'll never really be finished!
Guys,
Thanks for your comments. When I started this project, it was just to have something to do with the extra tools from the Jeep onboard toolset I was starting to put together. I had very little idea what was involved in putting together a GMTK. I've had a ton of help from the people on this site, more than I can ever say. I still go to the flea market or estate sales most weekends because, for me at least, the fun is in the search.

Don,
It is a great set that somehow keeps getting better but I have to agree with Jason, the USA stamped Crescent pliers are on my wish list.

Re: My Jeep & GMTK sets - They'll never really be finished!
Thanks, Phil! With the help of another vintage tool collector, I have finally completed my quest for brand matching shorty double box end wrenches for both of my keeper sets. I have found the 1/2" X 9/16" Barcalo to be extremely hard to find. I also came across a vintage box for the 8" Cee Tee pliers in my MVMTS.

Don,
Wow, the boxed Cee Tee's are awesome. Can you tell me. Is the model number stamped/forged into the halves at the joint like we've seen on other pairs of these?
Thank you,
Henry

Re: My Jeep & GMTK sets - They'll never really be finished!
Henry,
The pliers have been in my MVMTS for quite some time. The new acquisition was the Cee Tee box. I disassembled the pliers and took some pictures. The markings look like "H2882" to me and they were the same on both handles. One of the things I particularly liked about the box was the other Crescent products listed on the sides.

Re: My Jeep & GMTK sets - They'll never really be finished!
With the further assistance of a gentleman from Tennessee, I have a few more upgrades to the sets. First off is a like new 1-1/8" cad finish D-I socket to replace the plain steel version and better match the rest of the D-I cad sockets. I've also added a cad finish Mossberg Ell to the GMTK. Next is a nice dark finish 27C BB DOE wrench to better match the set in the MVMTS. Last is a couple of Unbrako hex wrenches with more matching markings that I found on eBay. I think I need to slow down!

Re: My Jeep & GMTK sets - They'll never really be finished!
I didn't think that I would be updating my set's thread this soon, but I have found some surprising upgrades recently. The biggie is the FSN marked toolbox I purchased from an internet militaria seller. The price was a bit more than I would normally have paid but apparently this FSN stenciled box is one of less than ten worldwide that have been found.
The second big upgrade is an 18" New Britain NS56 flex handle that is an obvious match to the late GMTK RA PD images of a 41-H-1502. It replaces a fairly rare Plomb 5468 that I really liked. Other GMTK upgrades include an unmodified 1945 Snap-on A15 drag link bit, a hybrid Bridgeport/Stanley #3 Phillips screwdriver hand engraved "ORD", a nicer FSN marked Walden box for my 1/4" drive set and a new appearing pair of US marked Crescent diagonals.
Upgrades to my 1942 MVMTS include a catalog matching Walden 1131 drag link bit from Phil and a 1942 marked Snap-on A17 drag link bit. I also picked up a slightly used 1" brass drift, a Mayhew 1/2" cold chisel and a correct Simonds 10" smooth file that Jason was nice enough to send me. My final upgrade was to move the MVMTS into the former GMTK McAleer toolbox since it was in better condition. Below are a whole bunch of pictures.
