Maybe . Think a few more boxes, suitably filled with tools, would ballast it out level again?

Very nice Phil, its great to see it all together and some nice touches.

It's good to see that I am not the only person with a desk in that state

I would be happy if my desk was in that state. I don't think I even know where mine is right now.

Notice I carefully didn't show any photos of the rest of the room.

Thanks for the comments guys. They are much appreciated.

It seems to me that every desk needs some reading material. There are some articles in this Yank magazine that may deserve re-reading.

Don,
From what I recall someone MAY have purchased that magazine more for the "Maedchen in Uniform" than the "Civilian Jeep" article.

Because I knew that this was a family oriented thread I thought it best to leave out the Jane Russell pin up but now that accusations have been leveled.....

PS I'm curious about what might be in those priority boxes that snuck into the corner of this picture.

Those are a few of Luca's on board jeep tool kits. If memory serves he has 5 or 6 MB based sets and 4 or so GPW oriented sets.

Phil, that's a great looking set and wonderfully displayed. You've got some fantastic pieces highlighted in the pics.
A complete set of Simmonds files! Very nice.
The 41-W marked file handle. Looks like a LUTZ handle to me. Also nice.
The Barcalo cold chisel. Well used and I don't think I've seen another.
The Snap-On electric pencil... I didn't know that I needed one until I saw yours!
Question on the close quarter driver. Is that a Stanley?
Did you decide to change from D-I to Walden for the 1/2" drive sockets?
Again, great set with some well thought out additions. Wonderfully displayed. Kudos.

Thanks Jason and for your help finding some of those pieces. The file handle is unbranded but I agree very Lutz-ish. The close quarter is a New Britain and the electric pencil...A mechanic must have! How else can we keep Don and Steve from "borrowing " our pieces? I did go with a set of Walden sockets only because I've done DI sets a couple of times. Still a big Duro fan though.

I may as well accept that this set will never be complete....and maybe I don't ever really want it to be. I made a couple more modifications today after looking at my set again. Over the years I have borrowed many pieces from this set to complete others and its easy to lose track of whats in it and what isn't.

And I went with a much darker finish OTC breaker bar.

Apologies for late reply Phil, but I've been on house clearing duties. Your photos are wonderfully atmospheric and the quality of the tools is a credit to you. Is that a "real" hub puller lurking in the pigeon hole next to the Bantam postcards? Not sure about the military provenance of the stag horn walking stick. Regarding your mental health, I'm always wary of questions such as "what do you do in your retirement", as any mention of collecting WWII American military tools usually gets some strange comments and looks. Anyone involved in this hobby has to be either a little or a lot round the bend!

Cliff,
I know exactly what you mean. When I tell people about collecting WW2 tools and GMTKs I get some very strange responses. Sometimes I feel that they are one step away from calling mental health professionals. :?
Phil,
Your OTC flex handle looks great and the chisels and punches look spot on. What are the brands as I can't quite make them out?

I've noticed some repeated concern over my mental stability. I know I'm not crazy, momma had me tested!

Thanks Cliff and for the idea. Don, the chisels are a Williams diamond point, United 1/2" cold chisel, Sterling US 3/4" cold chisel (from the repacks), and I'll have to get back to you on the cape chisel. Its still covered in a thick layer of grime.

My MVMTS got a couple of upgrades today. Greg the US ARMY stamped bible is awesome. Thanks!

My set already includes a Walden 1/4" set but given the recent vintage photos of sets on display I've added a second set, Bonney. I traded for this a few years back from Greg but Jason surprised me with a fantastic ratchet today. Thanks Jason!
