What is this tool?

Postby thidisbogus » Sun Feb 12, 2012 6:13 pm

Stir-Stick picked up this tool recently. What is it? It appears to be some sort of tool possibly for Signal Corps use?

It does seem to be a fairly common tool to find and I'd think its use wasn't restricted to the Engineers, but this is the only reference I can find:-

Hugh, so that no one might get confused, here is your own picture of tire chain pliers.

As for the tool subject of the thread, I could not avoid but thinking of a different use for the crimper, with the help of the automatic censor...

Crimp One Off!

No,I am not telling you who triggered the idea...

A lot of stuff finds its way to the UK from Europe where the US re-equipped the various armies after WW11 but it does seem strange that some items are really desirable in their country of origin where they should be plentiful.

A WWII Ranger would be very familiar with the crimping tool.

If you received demolitions training then you would be an "engineer" on down to the lowest level in a squad. I always liked even though I was a journeyman electrician when I hired on at the county I became a technician. Now you need to assemble a demolition kit.
