I picked up a half dozen 3/8" drive Crowsfoot wrenches this week including these two. The others were two Bonney units with PWA markings, and two plain Plomb catalog units. I'm sure they are all American.

The markings on this pair are;

AN 8506-18 1 1/2"
AN 8506-14 1 1/4" US

I'm thinking "18" is 1" and 8/16", and "14" is 1" and 4/16" but I don't recognise the style or manufacturer, particularly with the additional 3/8" square drive holes in line with the wrench body and not across it.

Anyone point me at the manufacturer?

Yes, surely, with the PWA marking on a couple of them, but no clue to the manufacturer of the two in the image. The Plomb ones are nice, but ordinary, and not PWA-marked, or Ranger-AT, or whatever.

And the AN stock number, of course. That was adopted during the war to standardize tools used on aircraft common to the US Army Air Forces and the US Navy, and, if the 1944 Class 41 is an indication, it was expanded to the RAF as well.

I don't recognize the manufacturer, but they are really cool with the dual access ports, for a straight drive connection or an offset drive connection. Snap-On made AN-8506 series crows feet, but I don't think production would've been exclusive to them.

Thanks for that.

They are very functional, but not pretty, I've not seen any Snap-On stuff that badly finished or unbranded before.

I'll just put them in the box with all the other aircraft stuff.

The AN stamp was not exclusive to tools or even aircraft specifically. As you guys know I do military style parachuting and have a decent collection of parachutes, and gear related to parachuting. Many of those items from WWII are (ink) stamped with a stylized "AN" in a circle. As Greg noted above the AN mark (in its various styles and forms) denotes that the equipment is approved for use, or used by, both the Army and Navy.

Thank you,
Henry

I have a 7/16" version with the same numbering system and no makers markings. After hearing about the AN information I threw it in the NAF box along with these PWA marked tools I received recently.
