Correct Siren for WW2 Jeep
I am wondering if this 12 volt siren is the correct style for WW2 jeeps and other 6v trucks. Did Federal Sign & Signal make it both ways? I have it for sale on a couple of the "For Sale" boards.

That is most likely why he enquired about correct style and wondered if they were made "both ways", 12 and 6 volts.TIGER wrote:Am I missing something, why would a 12 volt accessory be correct for a 6 volt vehicle? I know about electricity, and volts matter. The performance of a 12 volt siren running on 6 volts would be seriously diminished. Doesn't add up to me.

If all you're doing is....
Nope! I do not think it is a matter of bolting parts of similar shape (style) to the origional. It is a matter of enquiring if this kind of siren, as seen in many pictures, actually came also in six volts, as J.N. is obviously aware of the 12 volts not working on six volts. Not just similar, but identical, bar the voltage, just as six vs. twelve volts headlights or tail lights.
I think that yes, they did, but since I am no expert , and even less on sirens, I will wait for someone to confirm that the very same siren did come in both voltages.
No, no, I will not wait!
Look yourself!

John....Federal Sign & Signal is correct (to a point) as is Federal Electric.
6V Sirens are Model O
If you go to the Tools Board I have some info there as to the changes made when Federal changed names and the time spans. Previous to WW2 it was Federal Electric, changed names to Federal Sign & Signal, held that name until well after the War...so even some Federal Sign & Signal sirens are incorrect... it all depends on the Serial Number...
The pic above in Luca's post is my Data Plate before I restored/re-printed it.

See? Thank Heaven the Internet makes sharing of information and pictures so easy and quick for everyone to enjoy.TIGER before editing wrote:Ok, I'll give you that.If all you're doing is bolting parts of similar shape (style) to the origional...
Even the sounds could be shared that way, if really needed.
