The great thing about g503 is how it EDUCATES people to carry on a legacy similar to that of the craftsmen and artisans of the Middle Ages! If no one takes an interest how can ANY jeep survive? And history preserved.

I have an original speedo that has all of the numbers flaking off of the wheels. Is there a restoration process for these?

Willy,
the fuel and temp gauges are not wwii jeep. The oil gauge is a correct Autolite by the looks but no way I can qoute on that until it is inspected. The speedo is not a Motometer, it is a long needle Stewart Warner that has been modified to resemble a slat grill speedo but is the wrong model for a wwii jeep anyway.

Re: Restoring a slat speedo...dial up warning..lots of pics.
Sean, thank you.
I am very confused as all that stuff gome out off a 1943 GPW or 1942 GPW or 1945 GPW
It would all go back into a 1943 GPW as that is what I am working on.
I have to take a look what else I have.???

Hi Willy, I have had a closer look at the Fuel and Oil gauge and it appears they may be S-W gauges, hard to tell from the front in that condition so can you post pics of the rear and I will confirm what they are.
The speedo can be restored to a correct Gpw one by changing the face plate and needle.

Re: Restoring a slat speedo...dial up warning..lots of pics.
Sean,
Although I have been lucky enough to acquire my own Slat Grill #MBI02891 sadly enough she did not have the correct speedometer in her and I had all but given up thinking I would ever find one let alone be able to afford the current prices they are bringing.
All that changed in the last two days and I was lucky enough to purchase a complete Slat Grill Body sitting on a Ford GPW frame. The only gauge in the dash that was original was a early Slat Grill Speedometer. I have not pulled it out yet but when I do and if she has problems are you still working your magic on them??(I sure hope so)..
Look forward to hearing back from you one way or the other. Thanks in advance for your help...
