Schwarze Horn

Post by Kearney99 » Tue Sep 27, 2005 7:21 am

Ok the price of horns is getting a bit on the ridiculous side.

So I did some online shopping.

Found this on eBay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... AMEWN%3AIT

It appears to be a Schwarze horn that would be correct for a Jeep. Looks like a different mounting bracket, but when compared to the pics on BobN's website, (Supplied by Richard Grace) This horn appears to be correct.

Anyone comment?

Hi Kearney,
It is difficult to see the length of the trumpet from the angle the pics were taken. It looks like it could well be MB correct, althought the mounting spring is missing. They are available. Note, Schwarze horns were MB only, not GPW.

Thanks Al.

Im pretty sure its the real McCoy. Does anyone have any decent pics of how its supposed to be mounted?

What does the mount look like?

Is it something I can fabricate?

Ill know for sure once I get it in the mail.

Hey, 10 bucks + shipping sure beats the heck out of 150 bucks.

A little creative searching goes a long way.

The mount on mine is just like the Spartan horn. The spring is broken but the mount is exactly the same.

Hi guys,
The Schwarze horn spring is a very slightly different shape to a Sparton one but the Sparton one will work fine.

Both WWll jeep horns were also used on the very earliest 2A's too and I bet the CJ2's.

Hi Kevin,
The spring is not a part that is practical to make. It has four leaves of very thin spring steel and other special parts. I suggest you buy one of a dealer.

Here is the one attached to my horn. Looks like an MB style so maybe I need to find the other one. Or is this an early / late thing?

I have seen a LOT of 45 Willys MB`s with the short type horn. This have been debated earlyer, but no one have found any proof. Do you have any pictures ore manuals that show`s the long WWII type horn used on the CJ`s? Please e-mail me ore post here if you have any info.

Hi Frank:

The 1945 First Edition CJ-2A Parts List on page 49 states the A-1312 horn assembly and A-1389 bracket were used on the first 3,888 CJ-2A trucks, after which the A-17715 horn and A-17716 bracket were used. The CJ-2A wiring diagram on page 45 shows a short trumpet horn and lists it as WO # A-17715, a very late WW II part number that per the LOPN is either an Auto-Lite # HA-033 or a Sparton B-10539 six volt horn.

I imagine many late 1945 MB jeeps not used in Operation Olympic were later sent to Europe under the Marshall Plan, and I further suspect some of these used the A-17715 short trumpet horn instead of the A-1312 long trumpet horn, as verified by your observations.
Happy Jeep Trails,

So, would my January 20, 1943 MB be out of character with a Schwarze horn?
